Scored again tonight. I know his wages are probably high, but why didn't we just sign 1 or 2 good strikers like him instead of 4 average ones

salah never plays on the left.
Yes they both attack down the wings, but they don't just relentlessly cross it in as soon as they get in the final 3rd. They both very rarely if at all just aimlessly cross it in the box in the hope that eventually one will fall for you. Both clubs have so many more attacking patterns of play too. We are nothing like either of them.

Its not what Liverpool or Man City do. It's what Sheffield United and Chelsea were doing about 4 or 5 years ago. Then its effectiveness suddenly fell of a cliff when people worked out how to counter it. Now hardly anyone uses it.

Just because they both like to attack from wide doesn't mean they want to do it in the same way. What Warne wants is nothing like the    3-3-3-1 Liverpool or Man City play, or Newcastle's 4-3-3. Liverpool have Szoboszlai, Mac Allister and Trent who play through the middle. Warne wants something similar to how Luton play, who also attack almost exclusively from the wing-backs. 3-5-2, with three ball-winning midfielders, and two big target men up front

Warne would have. Said in the interview, even if we'd lost 2 or 3 nil he'd have still been delighted as the performance was apparently 'excellent'.

And Paul Warne says a draw feels like a win.
Lower league manager disappointed not to win. Warne says a draw feels like winning.
This isn't really the level of expectations I'd expect from us.

You've glossed over the tactical plan and used stats to define a 'manner of play'. On the surface, a high number of passes, shots and possession is good. However, are those passes on the edge of our own box, on the halfway line, or around their box? Are the shots causing any threat to the opposition, or are they hopeful shots from outside the packed area, or tame headers from aimless crosses?
It's the entire predictability of play. A pass is made to the edge of their box, but before he receives the ball, you already know he's going to take a touch, turn to the side of the pitch to the winger, who will dawdle on the ball a little bit and then eventually cross it high. The only player we have who shows any level of creativity on the edge of a packed opposition box (and can actually pull it off) is Bird. We need to spend a lot more time on the training ground to address this major issue in our play.
There were only 2 shots in the entire game where I felt we actually had a good quality shot on target - Collins when he was offside, and Hourihane's equaliser. Even Mendez-Laing's goal should have been easily saved by their keeper. It's not surprising when we line-up with players who have never been known as goalscorers. Bird and Smith have a combined 18 career goals. At this stage of their careers, Hourihane, Barkhuzien and Mendez-Laing will do well to hit that many between them this season. Whilst Washington has a decent minutes to goals ratio, he's the sort who will struggle against compact defences when playing as a lone forward.
The bench doesn't offer much threat either, with WIlson's 6 career goals, Ward averaging about 5 goals a season, Collins on the decline, and Sibley out of favour.

Yes, there's been some movement and passing, but it relative to the opposition. We're playing a full strength team against Crewe.
Our tactics are so simple, its obvious how to counter it. even Crewe can do it.

It would incredibly depressing if we weren't, considering we're playing Crewe. Camped in and around their box doing what though? It always just ends up as a cross, or a hopeful pass in behind for Washington. Typically unsophisticated tactics yet again, unfortunately.
It doesn't matter how many players we commit forward if they're just going to do the same old things. If anything it just makes us vulnerable to counter attacks.

It looks like we're dominating but in reality they're just doing what they always do. Play it out wide and cross it in, or shoot from unrealistic angles. We have no attacking play through the middle of the pitch.
We should still be winning though and will probably still win this.
