I just got the impression that Plange, Stretton, Thompson and Buchanan (in particular) were just doing their best to survive through games last (last?) season. All of them looked particularly out of their depth, in my opinion. I know all three/four have admirers in some corners, but they largely looked uncomfortable. They got opporunities because of what a state the club were in - Ebiowei, Ebosele and Cashin on the other hand took to it like a duck to water.

Just my impression, of course, but would be happy to see BIrmingham sink money into him knowing he's going to disappoint. He makes Max Lowe look like Lahm.

Has more learning for sure but he was decent enough to continue with, I agree about Stretton and and Plange whilst Tompson has a bit about him that I like but league one may not be his type of football and our current objective is getting back to the championship and Tompson height seems to go against him in team selection to often

I think it's a case of you wanted £2m for Knight, we wanted £250k for Wilson (that's what Bolton wouldn't meet), and we've ended up getting Knight for £1.75m (as per our local press).

    Adds up to me.

May well be the case, which smells at you needing to pay a sell on to FGR if we actually paid any money - a bit harsh to a smaller club?

  3. We need a centre forward and maybe two of them - in terms of midfielders I would be playing combinations of Bird, Hourahan, Smith, Sibley and Tompson whilst Rooney is no mug either and there has to be a root-in for the likes of Robinson - I don’t think we need another central midfielder at this point.

  4. As it stands

                       Wildsmith

    ward Nelson Bradley Forsyth Elder

                      Bird       Hourahan

    mendiz.        Collins          Washington

    fully expect another forward in,

,Cashin sold, and Washington down as a sub - but we are starting to have options over 90 minutes

Interesting that Bristol City were happy to let him go on a 'free' only one year into a three year deal, and following a first season where he only made five league appearances. Maybe the financial side was tied into the Knight deal in some way. If not, and he was simply being released for nothing with two years left on his contract, well that's just odd.

Good previous season with Forest Green, terrible last season, hopefully he's fully recovered and back on the up.

Hopefully he does well with us but as it stands he has only really played in league two ( fourth division) and a few substitute appearances in the championship so there’s lots of room for development - if he fell out with Pearson it would be understandable as it’s an easy thing to do.

I am being fair. He's a good player who I like a lot and one who I'm sad to see leave. I also note your point about him having played multiple positions, which is also fair.

But I'm tempering expectations here - if Bristol are signing him to score goals, they've most likely got this one wrong. Even when we did play him as a number 8 or further forward, he still wasn't as productive as you would like.

On the other hand, if they're signing him to provide some energy in the middle of the park - someone who will battle away and carry the team up the pitch - then they've nailed it. Well done, Nigel Pearson.

👍 yep I never mentioned anything about scoring goals - he will get some for sure but he won’t turn into a Frank Lampard in that department

We had Osula last year . I would play a no10 behind no 9 hence NML & Washington.

Osula never headed a football and managed nothing apart from Accrington away in the league - he was in fact very poor. So you would currently be having the ball go to collins where the defender heads it 30 yards into our half ?

There were games in that run though where I have no idea how we didn't win.  Ipswich at home springs to mind where lost 1-0.  Should have won by 10.

I can’t actually remember that one but then again we played ipswich so many times and lost when we seemed to batter  them

Has he? He's got 19 goal contributions in 4 years.

He's a good player man, but he's not exactly productive in front of goal.

Let’s be fair here, he has been so good that he was able to cover so many positions at a time when all our players were leaving/sold and the replacements were someone else’s retirees or unemployed. He helped the team so much that it hurt his own profile, I wish him well because of what he gave us.
