Four possible explanations I can think of for the 118-110 scorecard.
1: The judge took a bribe
2: The judge filled out her card before even watching the fight
3:  The judge got the fighters mixed up
4:  The judge clearly favoured Canelo, and was rooting for him, looking at his shots only and ignoring those thrown by GGG.
GGG landed more punches than Canelo in 10 of 12 rounds.
So obviously Canelo was favoured for his defensive skills.
But hold on a minute, Canelo was given the decision against Lara for his aggressiveness and punch output. Now he is being favoured for his defensive ability?
You can't have it borh ways, unless you're actively looking for Canelo to win which I imagine that judge who scored it 118-110 had done.

Canelo put up a great fight, but there is absoloutely no way he won that. 118-110 is a sick joke.
Canelo said afterwards he won 7 or 8 rounds easily. You know when GGG possesses hands like bricks when your opponent comes out and thinks he won. You didn't Canelo, not in your wildest dreams.
It wasn't a landslide victory for GGG, but it really wasn't a difficult fight to score. There were clear winners in some of the rounds, and in one or two of the close ones I gave to Canelo as that's what the judges would do.
I still had it GGG 116-112 Canelo. At a very push 115-113.
But as Alpha says, how can you find six rounds to give to Canelo? Let alone TEN as one had it 118-110.
Part of me was a little surprised they didn't rob GGG completely with the decision, but the fans got a great fight and there is a big chance they'll do it again.

Eubank Jr v Degale would be a great fight.
Jr's team need to lose the ego though. Accept they are a B side and get a good win under their belt before demanding 50-50 splits with the likes of Groves and Degale.

The last super 6 was a big success. I'm abit disappointed that James Degale isn't a part of it.
I'm also miffed why they don't do one for the welterweights. I know there is pride in winning a world title, you only have to see the sheer relief on Groves' face when he finally achieved his goal, but belts ultimately don't mean anything if you're not willing to fight the best.
You'd give more props to Groves if he fought the likes of Froch, Degale, Smith, Eubank etc. (winning some) than merely beating Chudinov to win a title then defending it against average mandatories.
In the Welterweight division you don't need belts. Just pit the likes of Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Spence, Pacquiao, Horn, Brook, Khan, etc. in a league table expanding over three/four years (say two fights a year each) and see who comes out on top.
Boxing will never work like that I know. But from a fans perspective, it would be so much better.

Similarly to when Pacquiao lost to Timothy Bradley (another outrageous decision), I fully expect there to be a rematch between these two in December or something.
Part of me feels this is just one of those big set-ups where a controversial decision allows for a money-spinning rematch. The fact Pacquiao complained to the high heavens about the Mayweather result (a fight he clearly lost) yet is now conveniently respecting this decision (a fight he pretty clearly won) doesn't quite add up for me.
I love boxing, but it's a business after all and it often makes a mockery of the sport.

Horn beats Pacquiao by UD. 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111.
I had Pacquiao controlling the fight and certainly landing more shots than Horn. I really don't know what fight one of the judges was watching, that 117-111 score is a disgrace.
Having said that, it's good to have another welterweight on the scene. Pacquiao should retire for good now, while Horn has opened up a lot of doors to fight some of the American boys in Thurnan, Spence, Garcia and Porter.
Boxing will always be controversial when a decision is ultimately left up to three old men, all with differing opinions on how a fight should be scored. Aggression won this fight according to them.
When you think of it like that, you have to question how Mayweather has remained unbeaten his entire career.

    Really enjoyed Kovalev/Ward.
Kovalev certainly bagged some early rounds but I thought Ward was always manipulating the fight. He made Kovalev graft hard and then took control.
Quite a dirty fight. Did Ward lowblow him earlier on when Kovalev doubled over? Didn't see replays of those.
In the final round he caught him heavy at least once. Saw the replay of that. The lowblow that stopped it I've not seen a replay of. But Kovalev was in big trouble anyway.
I think however many times we do this, Kovalev's power and aggression will win him some early rounds. Ward has the skill to survive these rounds and most importantly he makes sure Kovalev graft while slipping in some shots to slow him down too. Going into those middle rounds Ward... who can beat him? He's a fortress.
I think Ward fought a near perfect fight and he's got Kovalev sussed now.

Yeah, both have great potential a loss for either wouldn't actually be that bad as both have the ability to become world champions and it's a rematch which will be huge in some 4 or 5 years time.
Degale vs Groves and BJS vs Eubank Jr both would be bigger now than when they fought a few years ago.
Everybody loves a domestic showdown, it's such a shame some look like never getting made.
    I want to see...
Groves vs Degale II (Callum Smith to fight both too)
    Eubank Jr vs BJS II
    Brook vs Khan
Brook vs Liam Smith at 154
    Fury vs Joshua
    Bellew vs Dillian Whyte
Lee Selby vs Carl Frampton (Scott Quigg to fight Selby, doubt Frampton would want a rematch)

I'm a big Thurman fan, and from what I've seen of the two I still think he is the best welterweight in the world right now - he is the most versatile and adapts to his opponents better than the rest.
I'm convinced Brook would have gone on to beat Spence by UD if he could keep up the levels from the first six rounds where at times he looked the much better technical boxer.
However, it seems the weight loss zapped his energy. From round 7 onwards he was massively fatigued and I don't put that down to Spence's amazing body shots like some may have suggested.
Aside from his lack of fitness, one other thing that slightly disappointed me was Brook's lack of hooks. He's a great counter puncher with jabs and stiffright hands, but one area where Thurman dominates is his ability to mix it up and throw in some hooks on the back foot as well as the front foot.
We're spoilt for choice on the welterweight scene, but I think that's the last time we will see a big welterweight fight on English soil unless Brook/Khan can get made - but does it have the appeal without the belts?
The belts are staying on American soil once Pacquiao loses it or retires - Thurman, Spence, Porter and Garcia are all headliners while Broner, Bradley, Alexander, Guerrero and Vargas are also on the scene.

Brook vs Spence and Groves vs Chudinov. Hope the Brits win as there is potential for some massive fights after.
That super middleweight division is dominated by British fighters.

But I doubt Floyd will throw him in with Loma until he's about 37!

If somebody like Carl Frampton had his record and fighting style, he wouldn't get anywhere near the amount of publicity.
It's not the way he fights or his unbeaten record which has seen him become a global superstar, it's his unlikeable personality. So many watch his fights in the hope he gets ko'ed.
I would have loved to see some guy flatter him, but unfortunately he's too smart when it comes to opponent selecting and timing.

After seeing Chavez Jr pick up roughly $15 million US for throwing about 10 punches a round against Canelo, it honestly doesn't surprise me to see Mayweather and McGregor go at it.
They're both going to be absoloutely loaded after this. Mayweather will just duck, dive, weave and counter all night while McGregor will just follow his lead.
UD Mayweather. Both keep their reputations and egos intact, both come out stinking rich.

The scoring from judges has become super hypocritical recently.
Floyd Mayweather won so many wide UD by just ducking, diving and countering. Now you see fighters similarly fight on the back foot and get punished for not being aggressive enough.
    Where is the consistency?

Fury has numerous advantages over AJ and he's a better boxer. There is no way he would engage so it probably would be a boring fight. I'd back Fury in a UD - perhaps 8 rounds to 4 if they get it on.
Wilder vs AJ would be much better, as Wilder isn't a great boxer and will look for that KO. That fight would be far more explosive and you could see either getting put down.

AJ won't remain undefeated throughout his career. It's almost impossible as a heavyweight due to so many carrying that one-punch knockout possibility.
You can get away with running around the ring at 147 pounds, but at 200+ you simply can't do it.
I think AJ in terms of athleticism is one of the best heavyweights I've ever seen. However, despite his amazing power and agility, there are big question marks over his defence and head movement.
The knockdown which Wlad performed wasn't anything out of this world. It was just a faint jab into his chest followed by a straight right over the top - similar to what Canelo did to Khan.
This is basic boxing and a move you learn from a very young age. Getting knocked down by it shows a real lack of defence and an obvious weakspot for others to exploit.

I had Wlad winning too, but two of the three judges didn't so I'm glad AJ won the KO as it could have been a controversial points decision and that's not what we want to see.
One judge in particular had it 96-93 for AJ heading in to round 11. 7 rounds to 3. Nah, no way.

No sarcasm. I've lost love for the sport cos I have the perception that those running the sport are more interested in Pay Per View numbers than boxing ability, and that feels inherently wrong to me. It may have always been this way and I was just oblivious to it, but I'm an idealist and expect integrity.
I've kind of turned my back on the sport. But reading your posts keep me a little bit in the loop.

The trolls in boxing wouldn't last 30 seconds in the ring with these so-called 'bums'.
@Alpha is spot on. There are many talented fighters out there, but ultimately there are levels. While AJ destroyed Charles Martin, its not like they plucked Martin out of a US bar somewhere.
The paths for some boxers are much easier than others. Hearn deserves huge credit for paving the way for a number of world title victories for the Brits, but the amount of titles in today's game makes it easier to become a world champion.
Having said that, on the flip side, if it wasn't for the large number of titles then excellent match-ups such as Brook v Porter in the IBF wouldn't have got the recognition or exposure it deserves.
British boxers have a huge advantage though in that it's a small country, allowing for competitive training and easy availability in terms of sparring with top quality opposition.
In Mexico, with the country being so big, it's particularly hard in certain states for fighters to really get those quality rounds of sparring under their belts. It's expensive too, considering the average pay is much less.
I met up with David Haye's sister and brother-in-law while they were on vacation out here. They couldn't believe the quality of the gyms out here compared to the UK. They say the gyms here are like a throwback to the 70s in terms of equipment and accessibility.
UK boxing is on a massive high at the moment, and IMO it has the potential to get even better.
