In our own hands, well remotely I would agree.  All the other teams will think that about themselves.

I think we will stop up this season I am more concerned about next season. If the takeover drags on any longer I think most players who are out of contract will leave for better pay and prospects at clubs with more ambition than us at the moment. Also will Rooney stop at a club with very little money to spend to attract new players?   I never wanted Mel to throw money at our football club I wanted a long term sustainable plan to get us in the Premiership .

I study the form & Luton will be challenging. They have only 1L against sides in the bottom half & 11/14W have come against sides in the lower half. I went against the stats for the Stoke game, hoping we'd take the Brentford 2nd half performance into this game, (Stoke had a record of 6W 2D 1L v lower half).
Preston have just sacked Alex Neil. I think he had taken the side as far as he could & then totally revamped it which has led to more instability. They are on 44pts & may have acted because they fear getting dragged into the dogfight. They have lost 10 in 16 since the New Year (3W), a run akin to Hull's last season. Virtually all their remaining fixtures, bar Stoke, are against sides needing points at either end of the table. (Our last 16, 6W 2D 8L)
I've always felt Rotherham might survive, Coventry as well especially now they have the incentive of returning to the Ricoh.
I'm afraid we are really in the scrap on current form & our inability to score & create chances from open-play. Defensively, we've held up until recently.

To be honest I expected us to be well clear by this point. We should be as we had numerous opportunities to pull clear but the last 7 games have been diabolical.

What we have to remember is when we Cocu got sacked and we were bottom of the league I am pretty sure most of us would have taken being 5pts clear with 8 games to go

Well play like we did today and in recent games except second half against Brentford then we will be very lucky to stay up.
Rooney is copping flak and understandably so but at what point do our players take responsibility here. Rooney says plan was to get on the front foot and take the game to Stoke. They picked the same team that played second half against Brentford. Yet they did the complete opposite. They sat deep, they played the safe passes no one took responsibility.

8 game scrap now, it’s in our hands but it’s concerning that when we need to step up, some of our players freeze. Ultimately you finish where you deserve to finish, if we go down it won’t be down to Rooney, there are many other reasons why we are where we are. We just have to hope we scramble enough points to survive.

What a shame. His performance in the 5-0 against Forest must be amongst the best debuts ever for the club. He was quality in the 2015-16 season too. I'm convinced we'd have got past Hull in the play offs if that Ipswich clogger hadn't managed to snap his leg in a nothing game at the end of that season.

Not quite true. Could easily have got another two points at Newcastle but for a Moore error. Both Bolton games too, Both Fulham games, Pompey at home, both Chelsea (disallowed goal) and Liverpool (foul on Mears) at home could’ve been very different. There were obviously major tonkings, but all in all, there were ten games we weren’t bad, Man City away too.
