  1. I'll be the boring one and reply just as I would to B4. Is this not a little too early and should we not wait until we know what division we are in next year? The difference between building a Championship team and League 1 team are huge. The loan opportunities are vastly superior for the Premier League youth talent. Not only that but we need to see what we have left in the cupboard before we go shopping. This is a perfect topic to bridge the gap between the end of the season and the Euros.
  2. @Crewton as the topic creator, would you be happy for me to close this topic, moving forward with a topic simply called “Paul Warne”. We’re seeing similar posts depending on the result in both. A singular place to discuss the manager under a neutral title. The same question will be asked in the alternative threads.

  5. Every week. Clubs dip in and out of form, move up and down the table. Ultimately come May the teams over the season are ranked 1 to 24 where they deserve to be.
  6. Please accept my sincere sympathies
  7. The league table is a good indicator of how teams are doing. Football isn’t overly complex, stick the ball in the net more than the other team and you get 3 points. Not sure how else you can actually compare, seen other comments in this topic about what teams “deserve” to justify the xG argument, it’s all the same, ignoring the basic rules of the game which is based on actual goals.
  8. Of course. No alternative is there?
  9. With football though, it’s not like snooker where you can line the balls up and have 2 players take the same shot. xG fails to take into account the ability of the opposition defenders and keeper. It fails to take into account weather conditions. It fails to take into account the current situation in so many way, home, away, comfortable lead, behind, fitness level, carrying knocks. If it was a game played between robots in an indoor arena I could see the value. Comparing it to shots as a metric is nonsensical, shots and shots on target are facts. Indisputable facts. Nothing more than a stat that with possession gives you a rough idea as to how the game as gone. Never really see anyone give it much value as you see others try and give xG. Just watch the game. You will know how it’s gone and who played better, who created the better chances to win the game and who’s finishing or mistakes let them down.
  10. Scotland in the Euros
  11. Absolute nonsense stat that needs to get in the bin.
  12. “According to 'expected goals' data, Almeria shouldn't even be in La Liga's relegation zone, never mind the worst team in history.” Tells you all you need to know about xG.
  13. Brave that. I rarely venture into those myself! 2pm and I’m off! 😂
  14. I doubt he does either. I know why you think Steve Round would come here, I also know why you think he could improve the coaching team. I just don’t know why you think Warne would make that approach. Warne has his established assistants, his mates, Barker and Hamshaw. Same as Nigel Clough with Crosby and Garner. Once you have that established setup, couple guys close to you it’s very rare you will see them split up unless one wants to try something new or his trust is broken in some way.
  15. The topic is positives taken from yesterday, which in fairness it is a positive that others didn’t take advantage of us only drawing. You could argue it’s a negative not taking advantage and sticking 3 points in Warne’s backpack, which would also be fair. Disappointment sums up yesterday for myself. Not angry like others appear to be (not yourself).
  16. He left Arsenal last summer. Still unlikely to happen.
  17. Don't. I was there for that game. Had front row seats. Still not completely over it.
  18. I don't want to place blame on the players here as they get told what to do by the script written by Warne, he's 100% at fault, I do wonder though if the players shared this mindset that yesterday was going to be easy, could that have played a minor part in some way as daft as it may sound? For me, going into any game believing it will be easy is not the right mindset to have, we should approach every game the same, in that it will be difficult. The opposition will not roll over for us and allow us to tickle their bellies. Looking at Shrewsbury, Port Vale are just 3 points behind them in the bottom 4 with 2 games in hand, they have a lot to battle for like us and battle they did. Some of those players will have been fighting for their careers at this level, the financial rewards for remaining in this league. Looking across the forum, I can only assume you're not alone in thinking it would be easy, thinking Shrewsbury would come here and somehow just accept relegation. Anyhow, on we go to the next difficult game.
  19. Poor substitution? Let's roll with that and come up with alternative solutions. It's the 86th minute, you're 1-0 up at home, Nyambe goes down injured. On your bench you have, Wilson, Smith, Thompson, and Blackett-Taylor on the bench. Assuming nobody wants to bring Loach on for Nyambe, what do you do in that situation?
  20. Wouldn’t matter who takes it, penalties don’t count right?
  21. Sounds like a couple of failed attempts at a minutes applause, just me that’s heard that?
  22. To be fair, if you search star in this topic..... Not sure anyone could argue with @YorkshireRam that Collins has been a star this season, his goals have been vital for us, including penalties. He never said our star player, which would suggest he has been our best, that's up for debate with Nelson, Cashin and NML worthy nominations. Finally "many", well there's 2 people that have used the word star across 4 posts, 3 from yourself, so not sure how you are calculating this. I'm also not sure why anyone would want to downplay is role in our season, deducting goals as they come from the spot is pretty petty, if we went up on the last game of the season, Collins scoring a 90th minute penalty to finish 2nd, would we be sat here saying we should have been in the play offs really? Of course not.
