Yeah. It was absolutely to change which financial year the remainder of the players value was amortized away in.

The thing that really annoys me, is that at the point he took over, we were a pretty solid, well-run club.  We'd spent a good 5 years getting our house in order under Clough.  Some of the football wasn't the best, but we'd made steady improvements.  I was happy to buy into being a bit rubbish for a while because I could see progress was being made, on and off the field.  And at the end of it, we'd got a young, hungry squad with a lot of good players in it.  The wage bill was relatively sensible for a club our size.  McClaren had then come in and kicked things on a bit without really breaking anything, and you could see a real chance of getting up and staying up.
The spending splurge and rash of managerial appointments when Mel took over ruined every single bit of that progress.  So not only have we wasted the last 5 years under Mel, we've also wasted all of the progress we made in the previous 5 years as well.  Whether we stay up or go down, it feels like we need another 5 years of getting our house in order, and I really don't know if I can be bothered to sit through that again at the moment.

I don't think it's quite as extreme as that, but fundamentally Radio Derby need to maintain a working relationship with DCFC to be able to do their job.  If they aren't getting reliable access to the club, pre-match and post-match interviews etc, they're going to struggle to fill their programs up on a Saturday afternoon, deliver daily sports bulletins etc.  That doesn't mean they aren't going to be critical of the club, but likewise they aren't going to go all in on a random rumour without some confidence that it's true.  The other locals (Derby Telegraph, Ryan Conway etc) will all be in the same boat to some degree.
A national journalist has none of that pressure, he can just report a random rumour and then move onto the next random rumour for his next story.

We're not talking about listeners in general though, we're talking about Derby fans listening.  It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there are more Derby fans listening to Radio Derby than to Talksport.

    "What do we want?"
"Good decision-making and a coherent vision for the club leading to long term sustainability and success both on and off on the pitch!"
    "When do we want it?"
    "NOW!"
