He's 16! Even to look average at that age shows how good he is.

He needs time to settle a little, because he wasn't playing his own game for the first team.

He's an excellent dribbler with fine skill and a decent pass on him, as well as a good finish. If anyone has seen him play at youth level it's clear he hasn't got much more to learn because he's better than all of them bar Hughes. Both need to be in the first team to continue their development.

Hope we use him sparingly, much of Huddlestone's and Holmes' injury nightmares must be partially down to playing for a decade before they've even reached their mid 20s.

and as roger davies says, when you get out there, it doesnt matter how old you are

Obviously football only measures how many goals you score, but you can't chuck a bunch of kids out there and expect them to show experience. And when Roger Davies said that, he didnt mean if Bennett doesn't score in a dozen sub appearances at 15 years old he's not going anywhere.

lol but in one game will hughes played better than him and before that he was only mentioned in a tiny corner of the programme

2 key words. Think about it! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

You also mention he's only played a handful of games too.. why would you expect him to have scored in just 3-4 games?!

A bit of realism is needed here, he's 2-3 weeks into being a 16 year old and is now part of the first team (actively too) squad. There aren't that many in his age group that can say the same. The kids got talent, it's a case of watching it unfold and improve now, he could do without pressure and expectation like this me thinks. thats what i mean. with all the expectation, is he going to do well. we say hes got potential (me included) but he needs to play more and show why hes got potential and its not just because hes 16 that were talking about him so much

At his age i wouldn't want him to start more than 10-12 games and make 20-25 sub appearances at an absolute maximum.

The main thing is to take him out of the team at the right point. There will runs of be games where he struggles and will need resting. And there will be runs of games where he gets on a hot streak and needs to stay in the team. What we don't want is to be forced into the position (through injuries etc) where we have to keep playing him when we probably shouldn't. The same with Hughes, and even Hendrick, O'Brien, Naylor etc.

Don't forget that the lad was only training one day a week last year. He's going to be training full-time from this season and, by all accounts, he's been pretty impressive in pre-season. The Telegraph said that in yesterday's match Bennett was the most creative player and the most dangerous threat.

Just watch the highlights package of his game v Crystal Palace last year. Always showing for the ball, muscling experienced Championship players off it, making some good passes and some brilliant runs. At 15. Take away the missed bicycle kick and you've got there a very good indication of the type of player he is and the potential he does have.
