Tell Barca to do one.

Unless we get promoted to the prem, and then they do it, obviously they'd keep us as we are a big club. But fire off them little clubs like Wigan, Bolton, Chelsea and Swansea.

If they fired off Wigan, Bolton, Chelsea and Swansea to the Championship then surely they'd have to get rid of 4 Championship teams to League One and so on. Ultimately there would be four teams who would lose their league status unless they enlarged the Championship and League One to 25 teams each with League Two getting 26 teams.

The only other way they could do it would be to split the Premier League into two divisions of 10 teams each. Okay, not quite the 16 but they will be probably be even happier having less than 16 teams.

Loving how Barca are threatening uefa with this about the champions league, frankly they can leave if they want. They make the competition boring as seemingly no one can stop them, i wouldn't miss them if they didn't get their way and decided to leave the champions league.

They just want what's best for the fans.. and money of course.. They can make so much more money by putting CL games on a weekend so the fans can properly travel to the games and the TV deals they'll recieve will be huge.

It's only a matter of time before something like this goes off though.. People just don't care about the small clubs anymore (I put us in with that) and are only interested in watching the heavyweights.. They're basicaly trying to improve the European clashes at an expense of the smaller domestic clubs.. And the fans of the big clubs and the majority worldwide who follow these heavyweights aren't going to object..

I like Barcelona, but every time they release statements to the media, I dislike them more and more. Why can't they just f*ck off? Firstly the other day trying to dictate a price for Bale and saying they will only pay what THEY think is his valuation and now this?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

GO AWAY.

Travel properly? Barca probably sell out every ground they go to in the Champions League at the moment.

I dont see how it would work really, if Champions League games are played Saturday then what are the rest of the Premiership teams gunna do? Not play on Saturdays and play midweek? Have the weekend off?

This is what I think could happen in a nightmare future:

The European supergiants play in a European super league with no relegation, the players are on at least £1M per week (whilst the minimum wage in the UK has recently risen to £8.07). Tickets to a regular European fixture start at 300 Euros and you're very lucky to get a ticket as most of the tickets have been allocated to corporate sponsors and their families. Matches are broadcast throughout the weekend and are live on TV.

To watch the European matches at home on TV, you will pay a hefty subscription fee to access the service and each match is pay per view. UK domestic teams no longer enjoy much TV revenue since most of that has gone into Europe. The pubs are doing well since most people can't afford to have live sports at home.

The nightmare continues.... The supergiants now want exclusivity over weekends and are now demanding that all domestic fixtures take place during the week.

Just how far could it go??

Sounds perfect apart from the last bit. Let them f*ck off and do what they want, hopefully reduced tv revenue will mean players will have to accept lower wages and although the quality may suffer, at least it will be competitive.

Yes but only a select few fans can go.. Put it on a weekend, thus there is more demand, therefore they can raise the price of tickets and do 'package' weekends where they can put you in a hotel and the lot..

They're not saying that, by having 16 teams that's only 30 matches a season.. 30 Saturdays a year, well more like 24 when you include weeknight games in England.. That leaves a good 30 odd free weekends (and they're talking about cutting down the freetime in summer) it can be done with the timing in that they wouldn't have to remove regular PL matches..

While the armchair fans of the world will gladly pay their subs to Mr. Murdoch to watch Barca v Man Utd four times a season they might wonder if its worth it when its AZ Alkmaar v Spurs.

Ordinary Man Utd fans will be priced out eventually leaving an even more soulless, corporate fan, and when the bubble bursts, half empty stadiums.

tis a vicious circle of bastidity based on the concept of short term profiteering by people who have no love for the game.

But where will they go? then will be unfair on the non-league teams, this would have a massive effect on all tiers of English football, it would eventually get shallowed up by teams folding way at the bottom of the tiers, I really don't think he understands that the there 92 league sides and hundreds of non-league to sort out

There won't be 92 league clubs soon, The EPPP will send a few into oblivion. Basterds think of everything.

The fat cats will be aware of this and will start blaming domestic fixtures for taking revenue away so they'll most likely try and force rules through dictating that domestic matches no longer take place at weekends. On Saturdays it will become a choice of watching AZ Alkmaar v Spurs or going shopping.
