Nottinghamshire Police are investigating reports of racist chanting at the Nottingham Forest versus Leicester City match on Saturday 7 January 2012, following the online circulation of a video clip.

Superintendent Mark Holland said: “The incident is being treated as a hate crime and we are reviewing CCTV footage and following up on a number of lines of enquiry.

“We take all reports of racism very seriously and work extremely closely with the football clubs in Nottinghamshire in a bid to kick racism out of the game.”

Living in Leicester, I've got to wade in on this one. Sorry Red Dawn, but that's not distasteful, that's straight up racist. To call it distasteful doesn't make you a racist, so I'm not getting at you, but it does make you ignorant. And in the present climate, it's monumentally stupid of Forest fans en masse to chant things like that. Don't be surprised to see Forest have the book thrown at them for this one, and in Forest's current position (financially and literally), it could prove to be a final nail in the coffin.

I don't feel any sympathy though, chants like that don't belong in football or anywhere, and whether it's a minority of fans or not, the whole club is going to feel it. I'm almost giddy with excitement at seeing what imaginative punishments the FA can come up with. Shall we start speculating? Points docked, massive fines, or fans banned from games (not that the third one would make a huge difference to the gate takings at the Sh***y Ground).

yet did you go to the "fester" game? I was near the back at the top, and about three places to my left a guy was singing, "leciesters full of ****"......not a single person shut him up and the stewards just looked in awe

And i supose its alright to sing songs about Brian Clough being dead? Or Leicester fans calling Beckford a 'lazy n*****r I supose they aren't to get investigated?

I shouldn't have bothered posting it on here knowing that some Derby fans, like yourself, would start wetting yourself with excitement about our team getting punished for the actions of a few ******.

Singing about Brian being dead isn't racist, that's the definition of distasteful. Saying that to Beckford is absolutely racist. But where are they saying it? I don't know, but I'm guessing it wasn't posted all over YouTube, and wasn't sung by half the crowd (which is what it looks like in the YouTube video, and that is what the world is seeing). It's all about appearances with the FA.

I very much doubt they believe a word of the anti-racism stuff they preach, but they have to be seen to be believing it.

I do enjoy reading your banter, and I think you're probably one of the more sensible Forest fans, but looking for a shoulder to cry on here was always a long shot.

Lets be clear on this, there are ****** who support NFFC there are ****** who also support Derby County, and shock horror there are ****** in the real World too!

No one condones Racism, and if Forest Fans chanted then shame on them, but I'm a Forest Fan and didn't chant!

And also not very clever to use that outrageous behaviour as Banter either, or some tool to beat the brow of our great illustrious club.

Forest to beat Soton? whose Derby playing in their Play Off quest? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I remember going to a game at PP a few years ago, and in the week we'd been linked with a particular black player, I forget who now - there were a couple of old farts in front of us discussing the matter, when one of the chimed in with "We don't need another one of them here, we've already got enough c**ns". There was no vitriol or venom behind the statement, just a matter of fact uttering that he seemed to think was the obvious justification for not signing said player. This was one of the Werther's Originals brigade, but even so, I thought that kind of attitude was long in the past.

I don't think anyone would deny that every crowd is going to have a mix of idiots and ignorants, but when it gets to the point of large parts of them chanting their poison then you've got a problem.

Indeed Staffs Ram. There are right wing nutters everywhere. I bet the truly PC brigade will try and tell you that all racism should be stamped out with enough anti-racist awareness schemes and what not. But the fact is, there will always be a few tossers who try to spoil it for everyone. What has happened to Forest could quite easily happen to anyone, unfortunately, but it hasn't happened to anyone, it's happened to Forest, and that is hilarious. Now let's see how these smileys work 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> . Success!! That's not to down play racism of course, it's absolutely a serious subject and every effort needs to be made to get rid for good. But for now, I'm just happy to see another twisty turn in Forest's car crash season and can't wait to see how this one pans out.

Car Crash? we're only where you've been for the last two or three seasons.

Might have crashed a tad, but it is repairable? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Racism is not a laughing matter, even if it is your more illustrious neighbours! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Oh yeah, now I remember, it was only last season that we were in the relegation zone in January, having gone on a 7 game scoreless run, after sacking our international, title winning, manager after just a few months, and spending a boatload on crap players, while hemorrhaging money with pisspoor gates, while desperately seeking new ownership having lost our sugar-daddy, super-fan, chairman. Not to mention waiting to be indicted for "hate crimes". Those were dark days indeed...

No, wait a minute, none of that happened to us.

What we have here at the CG is better than at the PP, if you can convince me any different, I'm all ears! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
