Those who get compulsory purchase will be looked after.. There was noise before and there will noise after.. Those who know Heathrow will know that most of that area to the north of the airport is either industrial or farmland., Yes Simpson and Harlington would suffer but not that many. Sod farmland & objections from tree huggers...we should just develop anywhere, & everything that has a chance of a making a few quid.. Sorry Angry but hopefully the proposed 3rd runway will never take off, once it gets to the courts it’ll become plane that it just doesn’t make sense for our environment. Give them trees a hug Angry. 1of4
If they're going to extend Heathrow, then a rail hub needs building next to it, that will connect it directly to the whole country and not just a train that goes into London.
SSD
We can afford to spend billions on an airport expansion yet we can't afford to fund public services properly for folks most in need....... I don't understand the world sometimes ?
PistoldPete2
Should not be extending Heathrow until they Develop electric planes. Quiter , more environmental friendly. Think the courts will quash whatever decision the MPs have made. John McConnell is right for once.
Day
Got an airport up here doing bugger all but a couple of flights to Amsterdam and Spain a day. I’m not a cargo man like Angry so willing to accept I know bugger all, but why do we need a mega mega airport to compare sizes with Amsterdam and Paris? Could we not make the most and possible improve Humberside, Doncaster, Leeds etc. We’re a small island, only a couple hours away from London. Wouldn’t be Southern construction charges either, £14bn sounds like a lot of pockets being lined.

Wouldn’t be Southern construction charges either, £14bn sounds like a lot of pockets being lined. Because we are crucial to northern Europe and LHR is the ONLY London airport where this can work. Major international airlines wont fly into Humberside and the like, no point for them to. Emirates have supported the bigger regional airports such as BHX, GLA & MAN etc but are struggling to make it work. Passengers don't want to transfer from LHR to LGW for an onforwarding flight, neither do the boxes you sit above when you fly. AA, United and the like won't schedule flights into Humberside, Donny & Leeds unless it was commercially viable and it is not. It's all about volume and keeping it close, the moment you start to disperse it, it becomes expensive and unattractive. Heathrow has had investment in T5 & T2 but large parts of it are in desperate need for investment. The cargo areas are from the 50s and are no longer fit for purpose. The roads around the airport cannot cope with the huge amount of trucks that take freight to and from Europe. Truck parking alone is a massive issue and huge investment is needed in LHR now. Rail links need to be better, roads need to be better.
