Surprising, mainly because a) he's a terrific player (as owd 'Arry would say) and b) the players selected ahead of him haven't been outstanding at club level this season (Draxler, Reus & Brandt)

That being said, he hasn't got a particularly good record at international level, so that's the reason why he's been dropped in favour of lesser* players.

*lesser at club level.

Had his chance to prove he is worth a place against Austria. Blew it and better players take that left-hand side.

Yeah, Germany is pretty damn strong, but they are lacking world class striker. Not that they need one as it hasn't prevented them winning recent years...

Werner is close to world class level in my opinion. Reus and Muller can also play up front and Mario Gomez is always a useful option.

Sane is very poor for Germany and has 1 assist(0 goals) in 12 games at national level.

Sane also allegedly refused to play at the confederations cup last year in favour of having a nose operation. Make of that what you will, I think this is Loew getting back at Sane as despite Sane’s poor form, he is still better than brandt.
