Fact! this isn't a Rowett v McClaren argument. It's a "why not be realistic about what SMc did for Derby" argument. But to answer your question. Comparison like for like. SMc took the team from 14th to Wembley in that half season. GR took a better team down a couple of places. The disruption to fans and team was selling Hughes, Ince etc and it hasn't always been like it is now. You seem to talk as if SMc was here for a long time. He had 1 FULL season, yes 1!!
