I don't know the exact consequences.

However, most of the actual analysis on this subject has concluded that fewer foreign players in the Premier League isn't good for young British players as it simply means that they're playing in a weaker standard of league.

There were very few foreign players in the old first division. And England were still woeful on the whole.

We didn't actually qualify for a tournament finals for the whole of the 1970s.

SSN this evening hypothesised that the same rules as for non EU players would be appled. These seemed to amount to the fact that you had to have played for your country. So we might have a smaller number of foreign international players in future.

It will mean that Republic of Ireland players may now be out of our reach, as would be the likes of Camara and Albentosa. (And van der Laan, etc.)

Possibly Scottish players too should a referendum take place.

The alternative would be to relax the ruling, however that would effectively mean more non-EU players, such as Africans, Asians and South Americans getting an opportunity to come over.

Or we may likely go down the route of Norway where we become a member of the European Economic Area in the context of being part of the European Free Trade Association.  That will mean all of those pesky Europeans can continue to flood our borders unchecked...
