Looks like we may play him in central defence

RYAN Shotton was heading for a medical this afternoon ahead of a proposed move to Derby County.

Fenton-born Shotton will be severing his ties after more than a decade at the club having come through the Academy system.

Now 25, the writing has long been on the wall for the defender-cum-midfielder after making his last appearance for the club in the last match under Tony Pulis in May last year.

Shotton often divided opinion during his 69 first-team appearances for the club after frequently being played in wide midfield roles not best suited to his natural game.

But his energy, physicality, versatility and professionalism was always valued during the Pulis years.

And his local roots always left the club thinking twice about his sale.

It is thought Derby might consider him at centre half as they seek to go one better than last season's play-off final defeat to QPR.

Sounds like a no nonsense centre half :)

We are not Man City!!!

I dont see the point in having two first teamers for every single position.

I rate Whitbread and hes been involved in promotions with norwich and play off campaigns with fester.

We dont need any more DMs, and if Christie has a short term injury then Keogh has played there before.

Macca seems to be turning into Harry Redknap

Buying squad players for the sake of it!

Do you still miss Nigel that much?

Does this finally mean we have someone with a long throw :D

I remember Jay Mcevely "trying"

Just need someone who can win the ball in the air now - or maybe he can throw it along the ground.

;)

Didn't Nicky Hunt tried that while he was here? (By the way he is playing for Accrington Stanley omg he gone downhill since he left here lol)

On the contrary. From the standard of play he exhibited when he was here, Accrington is probably a step up.

Likes to cross........crossing weak

Likes to dribble.........holding on to the ball weak

Likes to play long balls........passing weak

Easy answer - win the ball, give it to Bucko.

Job done.

The big problem is Keogh - and him refusing to commit to a new contract. Obviously it's a personal thing , but as the captain everyone is and would be looking to him to commit to the cause. To be frank, if he doesn't sign within the next week then we will have to get rid in my view. Whether you like or rate him, the timing for these major changes wouldn't be good.

Suppose the other side of the coin might be that if he is just looking to play out his existing contract this season then he should be trying to play out of his skin to make sure his worth is as high as possible at the end of the season.

It's disappointing and a little surprised there hasn't been a bit more negative comment sent his way on the topic - right or wrong.
