Midfielder agrees terms on an extended stay with the Rams.

His attitude is exemplary and he’s a great player to have around the place."

Nigel Clough

Derby County midfielder Ben Davies has this afternoon put pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal with the Club.

Davies finished the 2012-13 campaign having made 26 appearances, scoring five goals, including the winning goal against Leeds United at Pride Park in December last year.

The 31-year-old’s current contract was due to expire this summer; however Rams boss Nigel Clough continually reiterated his desire to keep the versatile performer at Pride Park.

Clough told dcfc.co.uk“We are pleased Ben is going to be sticking around for another year.

“He’s been an important player for us, especially in the second half of the season when we've started with him and when he’s come off the bench in games.

“Ben understands he might not be starting single every week, but he appreciates how highly we value him and knows he can still have an impact on the side.

“On numerous occasions this season, we've seen Ben's versatility; he’s played right across midfield and also in both full-back positions as well, so if there’s an emergency we know he’s capable of doing that job.

“He never moaned about it either, he just got on with his job and that’s what we like about him.

“We didn't involve him early in the season but that wasn't anything against him. But what Ben did was keep his head down and work his way back into the side.

“He is a fit lad so there are no doubts on that front, his attitude is exemplary and he’s a great player to have around the place.”

Davies joined the Rams from League 1 Notts County during the January 2011 transfer window for an undisclosed fee.

He had been a long-term target of Clough, and just 48 hours after signing, he made his debut against local rivals Nottingham Forest at Pride Park Stadium.

Davies scored his first Derby goal in April 2011, with a stunning volley against Leeds United, which was later voted as the Rams' ‘Goal of the Season’ for the 2010-11 campaign.

Having turned out for Kidderminster Harriers, Chester City, Shrewsbury Town and Notts County, as well as Derby in his professional career, Davies has racked up 467 professional appearances.

I've got to say well done to Ben Davies. He was out on his arse at one stage, and instead of sulking, demanding a move, and undermining the manager and squad like players sometimes do, he's got his head down and forced his way back in to the squad. His contract is fully deserved, and in hindsight, he could and should've played more to allow Paul Coutts some respite.

I would call Bryson and Brayford's contract renewals signings if they happen so 3 out of 8.

no mate, that would be 5 out of 6 signings that we are expecting.

Nearly job done, and no transfer funds spent so far! Them yanks know what they're doing.

He missed some of the season as his son had to have eye surgery so understandably said that football wasn't the most important thing to him at the time. But yeah, I agree with you, he came back fighting, good on him.

His interview's on the official site btw. Can"t post a link tho, soz.
