Jamie Ward - 20 goals next season?

Games 20

Goals 12

Assists 8

Shots 49

I would say 50% of games at wing and the other up front. Just as a guess mind.

I think one of the biggest coups this summer will be a contract for Jamie Ward. He is becoming the go to player ala commons. And we saw what happened when other clubs came in for kris.

Now everyone is going to say he will need to be injury free that is an obvious factor.

But I think it is worth the risk of his reoccuring injuries giving him a new contract?

Won't stay injury free. Some players like him and Tyson and Commons are just prone to strains and niggles. Forever.

I'd say inconsistently one of divisions best players.

Imagine Ward at his best for 46 games? He'd be a star and probably the divisions POTY. Bet there's a few like him knocking about though tbf. Snodgrass consistency made him an absolute gem.

Give him as many goals as possible and then sell him. If we're going to try and go up on a shoe string, you can't afford the luxury of having players like this who are only fit for half the season or less. Your best player needs to be available all the time if you want to go up.

Ward is also the sort of player we could probably get quite a bit for. Sell him to Leicester, Cardiff or some other team with rich, moronic owners and managers who have a fetish for signing 24-28 year-old Championship players for a couple of a million, and you could get yourself two players who may not be as quite as good as Ward but will be twice as effective due to playing the whole season.

He doesn't need a new contract we have a one year option on him which we will take up.

After that he will be released • with a small squad you can't carry someone who has dodgy hamstrings

His hamstrings wouldn't be 'dodgy' if he was ever allowed the time to recover properly

Disagree with that statement. His career has been plagued hamstrings injuries so no matter how much time he has to recover, they won't magically get any better

He needs to be better in certain aspects of his game, but, in terms of putting the ball in the goal or setting goals up. He is a fantastic player, he is a favourite for all stat derby fans because he produces the numbers, and in the end that's all that matters. He could do with watching his game a bit, because as well as our most effective player - he is probably the most wasteful to! Looks to play too direct at times, but he isn't a premier league standard player and I don't think he ever will be, but, as a championship attacking player he can hold his own with the best!

Amazinging how many physios we have now, brayford has got a hamstring injury does that mean his career his going to be plagued with injuries now.

He played 40 games last year, not bad for an injury prone player, which is around same as another injury prone player we didn't offer a contract to until it was to late.

Just in case you are struggling though, and your burnley shareholder can't help.....

DERBY County will look to offer new contracts to forwards Kris Commons and Steve Davies if they can prove their fitness next season.

Both players were plagued by injury during the 2009-10 campaign and are about to enter the final year of their current deals.

Manager Nigel Clough believes the duo have the talent to be among the top performers in the Championship but is looking for them to produce on a far more consistent basis.

Hamstring problems restricted Commons to 24 appearances last term and only 14 starts.

Davies was also hampered by his hamstrings and required surgery on an ankle towards the end of the campaign.

He made 22 appearances in all competitions and only nine starts.

Both are doing their utmost to make sure they return to pre-season training in the best possible condition.

Davies, 22, has already been working on his strength and conditioning at the club's Moor Farm training ground, while 26-year-old Commons is due in next week.

Rams chief executive Tom Glick said: "In Kris Commons and Steven Davies, we have, in the manager's opinion, two of the most talented players in the Championship.

Yep you're right. Only giving him a year to sign a contract was ridiculous.

Should have been offered a contract the season before, you remember the one where he was injured, on the bench or putting in awful performances leading to him being subbed in the first half.

Or maybe google can come up with a good counter argument to that.

And just as a side point, Shackells fee has yet to be proven...or did Google prove that too? The same Google that had us believe that Commons and Shackell...actually I won't even go there.
