The Big Sammon Thread

Disagree with that bit - Sammon is average, not awful, but Hughes, Brayford, Hendrick and Keogh are all significantly better.

Richard Keogh said last night, that Sammon is the best striker in the championship and probably the best player at our club.

That is SOME stretch IMO but he is highly thought of at the club, and in the ROI set up.

I'm sorry just because he made one goal doesnt stop his all round distribution and touch is awful..I get that he makes runs of defenders and tries harder than other players but if he tries his best and isnt good enough then well he wont improve..Missing from 3 yards and miskicking a good chance not to mention the number of times he played a pass behind martin so the ball was not going forward..dont get me wrong.. i think Sammon is a sound guy from autograph signings and interviews but he is not a championship quality player that can do a job for us..too inconsistent

Where did he say this?

I've got to read it.

he was at the casino last night, nice guy to be fair.. a bit touchy about certain things, but, overall nice guy!

Oh right, thought it was a proper interview or quote.

Pissed up at the casino doesnt count, he was probably having you on.

Well either that or he's thick as pig ****, anyone that truly believed that would have to be.

Can I ask why fans can't ironically sing his name.

The majority of the south east corner started chanting his name after he missed the sitter and then sliced the shot at goal.

People on here are saying that it is ****** signing it and that it must be bad for his confidence. That is obvious but when a striker has scored 1 goal in 15 games in the championship surely the fans have a right to say put him on the bench.

People say it is embarrassing to have people chanting his name in a joking manner.

However you could argue it is more embarrassing to have a derby county player missing from 6 yards with no pressure. Having the worst first touch in the team besides maybe Buxton when the player is playing up front, who usually have one of the best touches. Having very poor timing of headers yet he could win so many.

Finally to the people at the start of the season saying he didnt play at Wigan and he will improve with games at derby county....... Has he improved? Honestly I think his confidence has been obliterated and is a very poor striker now that doesn't know how to shoot or the timing of the shot? He will be a much better player away from home now without the home crowd booing every bad touch he does. Look at Cardiff he was very good and scored.

All you have to do is look at teams BELOW us in the table and their strikers are much better than Connor Sammon. We sold Davies for 700k he is much better than Sammon who was 1 million+.

Again the final message is, if we had a player like Steve Davies that wasn't injured all the time that could get 20 goals in one season we would be out the division.

Ok maybe Roberts isn't the best left back and Buxton isn't nemanja vidic and we could do with a better winger. But You look at teams in the playoffs their defences are not spectacular but going forward they are good and that is the key to this league attacking over defending.

The problem is clough can't let Sammon go or drop him. He is the big 1 million signing all over the season ticket renewal posters.

The ironic cheering didn't start until after he sliced a Stern John like volley wide by 60 foot. That sums him up.

The fact is that I think 95% of fans can see that he will never be good enough to get Derby out of the Championship. (except down a league) and that depresses me. In Cloughs eyes, he can do no wrong, so I don't see anything changing, so we are stuck with him. Now short of putting in a 25 goal striker next to him, so his ten goals, and general poor play are sidetracked, we won't be good enough. However, as a club its very doubtful that we will get that striker next to him, so we are stuck with him.

That's why I am depressed about dcfc.

You'll be much happier at the other end of Brian Clough Way by the sound of it. Give it a try.

He definitely wasn't joking - I asked how Sammon took it after the game cos he went down the tunnel and he said, no he was fine and he said he is quality player, probably our best player and for me he is the best in the championship and my gump supporting friend, said he is no billy sharp or simon cox and keogh said he has played with both is twice the player cox is, look at who got picked to play for the ireland team.

end of the day he is club captain and he'll be over compensating for him - but he is highly thought of.

Sammon looks like the ultimate definition of a confidence player to me. I noticed it during the first 10 or so minutes of the Leicester game. He was playing very well, made a mistake, got some stick for it and his performance followed suit.

Of course, that will now become accepted as fact.

Richard Keogh can't play football because he got pissed up at the casino. The next person comes along and it will be that Richard Keogh skipped training because he hadn't sobered up after getting pissed up at the casino. Then suddenly he misses a game - and the club say he his injured. But of course we know better. Clough has dropped him because he got pissed up at the casino and missed training. The close season arrives, and the rumours kick on a notch. We are after a new centre half because Keogh wants out - he needs a signing-on fee from somewhere because he has massive gambling debts to settle. And a drink problem.

No smoke without fire.

I think it's sad that certain fans take great delight when Sammon does something they don't like, regardless of wether or not it was his error - for instance a pass from Wardy what's dodgy and ends up behind him.

They can't seem to grasp the fact that sometimes, these things are not Sammon's fault and in these situations there's not much he can do.

At least if you're going to slate Sammon, be consistent and do the same with the other players who make a balls up, because they do make them.

There's some guys near us who take delight in standing up and cheering when Sammon doesn't get on the end of something. I 'm not sure why they do it, other than they think they look good showing off in front of others, but to me they need to grow up because they're seriously pathetic now. Pathetic, predictable and boring.

I'd like to know what exactly it is they're trying to achieve?

Ward was ***** last night

Crap penalty

corners that didn't go anywhere near a derby runner

Martin was in oceans if space in the box but Ward didn't even look and just tried to beat his man instead of playing the easy early ball to an unmarked striker

Can't really remember him beating a man and putting a cross in.

The only thing he did right was getting on the end if Sammons pass to score our second - even then he almost managed to fluff it by hitting too close to the keeper who should have saved it.
