OK, Thomas signed for Birmingham on loan - Birmingham, who had just been given a 4m transfer fee for the sale of Jack Butland and who desperately need to stay in the Championship - and perhaps may need to finish 10 points clear of 22nd place to do so. Why on earth do you think that Derby would possibly want to sign Wes Thomas, a player who, frankly, has a pretty nondescript scoring record? Who would you drop for him, Ward?
