He will be hoping to make rapid progress and insists it would be “a great honour” to line out alongside Irish stars Sammon, O’Brien and Joe Hendrick, with the latter two proving that the route from the academy to the first team is one that is more than achievable.

Did we get Jeff's younger brother too? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

  • 3 weeks later...

Signs today from Cherry Orchard in Ireland. Probably our only business of the window. He joins a few of the regular Rams U16s who were offered scholarships last week at the Academy next year. Some players were also told they will got released. Tough for them.

The club is obviously trying to shelter some of the lads from scouts and whatever. They diden't officially release the names list at all this year. Believe there were 11 new scholars or so. Names to watch out for. There were 10 scholars last year so not many of the new ones have made it as regulars with the U18s yet. Jamie Hanson is one name to watch out for. Scored the winner in the FA youth cup and has already started with the U21s. He was a midfielder but since his conversion to centre back the U18s have started winning a few. There is a Slovak goalie and an Irish lad called Carrighy. Revan is a forward and Rawson a defender. Both were with the U16s last year. Think they both came off the bench in the youth cup. Another is Wassall, son of the coach. There are a few others who are yet to make a big impact.

That FM list is spot on with the names. All this years scholars in there. Andre Johnson is a 1st year scholar, a forward. Nash is a defender. Hanson now playing in defence but versitile. Wassall is also a 1st year. Lowe is one of next years scholars along with Tuite and Sam Vernon and some others from the current U16s.

Who do you thinks the pick of the bunch from the under 18 and under 16 side. In other words, are we likely to see any other youngsters step up like Hughes and Bennett (to an extent) has done?
