I've actually enjoyed reading most of your posts on this thread. There's a lot that resonates with me such as your comments about the  problems created by working from home. Good post from AngryRam as well.
I agree with your concern over the morality of innoculating the young, especially when scientists don't seem sure whether or not it could long term health issues. I worry, too, about the effects of disrupted education and the effects of isolation at the very time when children need to be socializing and playing with their friends for their physical, social and emotional development. For so many children school is a haven and a vital support and essential to their health and safety. Covid is probably here to stay and isolation is not the way forward and as you said in your post, our amazing immune system is only so strong because of our contact with lots of germy folk. Look at the number of forest tribes that were wiped out because their people were killed by diseases such as measles, brought in by outsiders.
There's an old saying, 'Trust in God, but tie up your camel' and I guess that's my stance at the moment. I believe that we will be ok, but I'll still tie up my camel just in case. My caution about wearing a mask in certain circumstances is not born out of a morbid fear of killing vulnerable family members, but from pragmatism, commonsense and consideration.
I'll stop there because I have written enough and anyway I've got to go and look for a missing camel.

    Covid update this morning:
Boss of my place has Covid. Not feeling good but still working. Double jabbed and healthy so will hopefully be ok.
Guy in my team seems to have Covid symptoms, getting a test. Sounded pretty rough.
Most staff at the hospitality venue my brother just finished managing have it or have been told to isolate. My brother supposed to be going back there so it can remain open.
However, boss at his new place has just tested positive too after her daughter did. He had hour conversation outside with her last week over 2 metres apart. He's had negative lateral flow but just done PCR one. Waiting for the inevitable contact to isolate for 10 days.
If he does test positive, then his teacher wife will have to then isolate for 10 days too. If the she does, then I guess that means a school bubble is off as well.
Could be a tough summer of cancelled plans.

Having built up an immunity over many years (especially as a primary school teacher) I don't think my immune system has been 'shot to pieces' over the last year. I think that it all depends on personal circumstances. I'm not sure that the last year has resulted in immune systems to be 'shot to pieces'.  I understand your worry but hope that your concerns are unfounded.

Archied if you have lung cancer you are already very ill, you really really do not want to get covid. You should take every possible measure to avoid it regardless of the fact you know nobody that has been seriously ill within your circle.

More than 300 thousand people a week are testing positive and that figure is still rising. We are also trying to achieve herd immunity. It is extremely likely that anyone who is not shielding will contract covid at some point if they haven’t already. We should personally take every possible measure to protect those that need protecting.

I understand your annoyance with the general government message of fear.

However replying to someone who is quite obviously extremely concerned for their clinically vulnerable family member in the way you did was in my opinion done in poor taste.
I mean you could of posted that message anytime to anyone but you chose to directly reply to the one person suffering from lung cancer.

Only time will tell when things will change. I hate wearing a mask as I guess you do. What works for me is carrying one in my pocket and then judging each situation throughout the day. If I am in a crowd indoors,I  wear a mask. Outdoors in a crowd? I do a quick risk assessment and use commonsense. If I feel uncomfortable, I put a mask on etc. I think masks will be not as necessary in the future as they have been but it will still be considerate and polite and even essential in the case of hospital and care home visits. I guess you never know whether you are safe or not because of the incubation period but you have to do a realistic and sensible risk assessment when you are in contact with poorly and elderly relatives.

That would make sense if I was saying everyone should isolate forever and who cares about their mental health.
I was actually saying it was probably worth wearing a mask if you are indoors with someone vulnerable when we are approaching 50k cases a day.

Look, I'll let you off I can see you're new here but I can't be doing with all this being nice to people and writing balanced posts, it isn't really the thing to do in this thread.
Pick a side and consistently give heart emojis to the people that agree with you and laughing emojis to everyone else, regardless of the content of whats been posted - its how we roll.
If you've not had several posts removed or picked up a few warning points before your 100th post you're doing it wrong ?
Either that or keep up the good work and don't let any of us old timers get ya down.
Welcome to the red-headed stepchild thread of the forum!
And @Archied you should know better ?

    Taken from the cdc.
    “Flu
Most people with flu are contagious for about 1 day before they show symptoms.
Older children and adults with flu appear to be most contagious during the initial 3-4 days of their illness but many people remain contagious for about 7 days.
Infants and people with weakened immune systems can be contagious for even longer.
    COVID-19
How long someone can spread the virus that causes COVID-19 is still under investigation.
It’s possible for people to spread the virus for about 2 days before experiencing signs or symptoms (or possibly earlier) and remain contagious for at least 10 days after signs or symptoms first appeared. If someone is asymptomatic or their symptoms go away, it’s possible to remain contagious for at least 10 days after testing positive for COVID-19. People who are hospitalized with severe disease and people with weakened immune systems can be contagious for 20 days or longer.”

The problem for so many with covid is that they unknowingly spread it because they aren’t aware they even have it.
Your chances of doing that with the flu  etc are far far less.

Around the vulnerable, then take extra precautions, simples.

Can you get anymore dramatic? @Miggins post came across as complete commons sense that I imagine most people agree with.
Hold on, don't tell me, that just proves how the majority of people have been hoodwinked by those dark forces who have exaggerated Covid all around the world!
Can you tell me the odds on surviving Covid for older people who have just had lung cancer? You know, the situation that @Miggins was actually talking about?

I'm coming to the same conclusion. Deleting the app feels wrong, as I'd want to know so i can do lateral flows to be on the safe side, and manage my own risk about who I see and when
It's literally all I've had to look forward to all year - 2 weeks away in a flippin English village on the coast. I will lose my mind if that gets taken away from me at this point

Got pinged by the app today & told to isolate for 3 days instead of 10, so the exposure must have been when I went out for a few beers in Lincoln a week ago.

Double jabbed and negative lateral flow result this afternoon.

    Isolating? Bugger that.

    Lots of promising news in the article including;
    - Those ending up in hospital seem to be less sick, and need less intensive treatment.
    - In January about one in 60 cases resulted in someone dying. Today it's fewer than one in 1,000.
