  1. So much defines us. On a personal level every Sunday I zoom with my brother in Australia and mum in derby. What do we talk about? You guessed it..the rams. I have lived in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester and nowhere has the local pride been as strong as in Derby. The small town punching above our weight? That’s us. The pride, history and tradition? That’s us. Very few things bring a lump to my throat but Jamie T reciting We are Derby before the match has me in bits. The history, the pain, the infrequent success that defines us but most of all the togetherness of this season shows the world what we are. I love you Derby.

My Grandad bless him died a long time ago, he was born in 1898 and went to the Baseball Hotel when he was 14 and Steve Bloomer was in the bar having a pre-match drink and bragging to the fans that he was going to score today. My Grandad told me this story a few times and was lucky enough to see him play several times.

Funny that my Grandad who passed away in 1972 told a similar story, passed down to me by my dad. My Granddad also played cricket with Bloomer for Rosehill Methodists.

  3. I think this moves things on fairly significantly. Look at it from SGs position. If we go to court he could:

    A) win a big payout, which is highly unlikely and which may liquidate us. Consequently he gets £0 and potentially gets HMRC pursuing MFC for our unpaid debt.
    B) win a small payout for lost revenue of a P/O semifinal. More likely but no way guaranteed

    C) the case gets thrown out and he pays costs and looks a complete tool.

From his POV arbitration is the best option as it carries least jeopardy. Admins and bidders know this and consequently know he comes to arbitration with a weakened position.

Game theory would indicate that the preferred bidders should collude to bring down the sum offered to SG to a negligible amount as this will be better than court for him. Chances are they wouldn’t collude but they do have coinciding interests …..

  4. On the face of it this looks harsh, but we need to remember a few things:

    • we don’t know the full extent of The facts / Keoghs contract / his disciplinary hearing / the offer of a revised contract

    • the club have access to much better HR / legal advice than most ,if not all of us.

    • on a purely financial basis this seems to make sense. His career was effectively over before today’s events. All else is sentiment from a financial point of view.

For the record imho he was a good servant to the club, who performed well most of the time, but as a captain he was 50% of Rob Hindmarch RIP in terms of being a leader
