Cardiff City have turned down a bid from a rival Championship club for centre-back Anthony Gerrard.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Championship new boys Huddersfield Town while Bristol City, Blackburn and Derby are interested.

Gerrard, cousin of England captain Steven, has not played since missing a vital penalty in Cardiff's Carling Cup final loss to Liverpool in February.

Gerrard has been left out of Cardiff's pre-season tour by boss Malky Mackay.

The former Everton trainee, who signed for Cardiff from Walsall in July 2009, was left behind for the trip to Switzerland as captain Mark Hudson, Ben Turner and Darcy Blake are seemingly all ahead of him in the centre-back pecking order.

Gerrard, who had spent most of the 2010-11 season on loan at Hull City, told his Twitter site: "For everyone asking, I haven't been givin [sic] a reason why I haven't gone, I'm only interested in getting fitter, so that's my main concern."

don't think we'll be in for him anymore but thought I would plug it anyway! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Perhaps this might have been an option had we not signed Keogh.

Surely now, any other players we look at bringing in, are left backs or CFs

I wouldn't say no if there was an endless pot of money available, but as you said other positions need to be filled - first and foremost a left back and a striker, then perhaps another centre back (if we have time 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )

I wouldn't mind him, liked him when I saw him years ago at Walsall - looked different class.

You know what, I'd welcome this. I think a loan move could be good, as said above a CB partnership of Gerrard and Keogh could go someway to replace that of Barker and Shackell- plus we wouldn't be shelling out a load of money for another CB when we've already got Keogh, OB, Buxton, Naylor, Brayford et al.
