I will be sure to pay the Derby board a visit IF it goes thru. They certainly came on here giving it large last season. How things turn around.

People love to speculate.

Will Burnley offer him much more than he's on here? I don't think so. Obviously a little more as there's no point moving otherwise but they dont spend much on wages so I can't see them offering him mega bucks.

I'm not blaming the player as such, but Barnsley fans did say this was going to happen. Perhaps we should have signed someone who would have stuck around in the first place.

It is funny how amazing Jason Shackell has become recently though. I don't think he's the best centre back in the league, far from it, and while he is our best defender and very good one at this level, he will need replacing before long and he's not irreplaceable - at the right price. The gamble here, and what I don't like about it, is that we're trying to bring in two players, I presume, with the funds from this sale. Very difficult to make this worthwhile.

Clough's got a lot of things right in the transfer market but it's going to have to take inspired genius to make this work. This will make Clough. This is the only player he's ever had worth selling for a decent fee so he has to get this right.

If we really are bottom-6-budget material, then Burnley probably don't have to offer that much to out-do anything we can offer.

Shackell hasn't asked to leave. Derby have been out of the traps straight away with the "no, if the price is right" comments.

Nigel never mentioned anything about "not standing in his way".

I'd like to know who our target is that's cheaper than Shackell that also has 10 years(ish) of professional football and will come in as our best CB.

Then I'd like to know why Burnley and Cardiff don't want that player and want our settled in "with a ton of experience at this level" CB.

I heard that Shackell hates Derby and all the people that live here, he's apparently pulled his kids out of school, and his son has been seen wearing a Burnley shirt. Apparently the experienced replacement is James McEveley. Never heard of him until now. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Shackell hasn't suddenly become good either.

He was our best defender. Our captain. Nobody disputed that last season

He's not suddenly great. He's turning into a **** CB the closer he gets to Burnley it seems.

However imo shackell has been decent in a poor Derby side ,that aside how will Derby do, without his sevices,i guess less than the REPORTED FEE suggests

Completely different, 1 season at Derby and was integral in a top half finish! without him, we wouldn't of done it. Whereas Keogh wasn't able to stop Coventry from finishing in the bottom 3.

Also, from what I can gather Keogh is a more expensive option than Shackell so we won't be going down that route.

There were a fair few people around me that disputed it. One guy in particular spent the entire season hurling abuse at him, cumulating with him standing up and screaming 'Shackell, do something for once you useless (insert extremely offensive word for female genitalia here)' in the final home game.

Some people didn't rate him. They were uninformed, granted, but the overwhelming consensus seems to be now that he is our best player. Which I think I agree with.

Strange that you feel the opposite.

I don't know what I feel. None of us do. Our Derby hormones are working up something nasty and all we're doing is hurting those around us. Too many emotions for a man to deal with.

I think once Clough first commented on the transfer speculation, Shackell was as good as gone. For me those comments have made it pointless Shackell staying.

Of course there are better defenders out there, but he is our best defender and we need an experienced defender. Even if we make a large profit on selling him, it is still a huge gamble.

RICHARD Keogh appears to be edging closer to the exit door at the Ricoh Arena after Leeds United renewed their interest in Coventry City's star man.

Sources close to Elland Road claim the West Yorkshire club are poised to test Coventry’s resolve with a substantial bid for the 25-year-old defender, who won every player of the year award going last season.

I suppose we can only wait and see, I hope we can find a much better, younger whilst experienced leader at the back to replace Shackell (for half the money) and also find a 20 goal a season striker to fire us into the prem (with the other half)

but if that happens, I will eat my .... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
