randombc
I can't help feeling we should be exploiting these more often, whenever we do get a throw in, players seem reluctant to come and meet the ball and create space, and other teams (most famously stoke) but even cardiff last night, had a player who could launch the ball in it acts like a corner or a freekick, but has the potential to be a lot more accurate. Just think we should be letting someone work on throw-ins, after all it's just practice theres no natural skill in it, living proof of that is delap who's the least skillful player in the premier league, yet this one attribute provides stoke with such a threat. Just my personal opinion.
Mr Tibbs
It would be nice to have our throw ins come to some effect other than hopelessly thrown anywhere. Cardiff caused us all sorts of problems last night with them. The only person I could imagine doing this though is John Brayford and we all know where he is at the moment. RotherhamRam
Tell you who has got a good throw on him...... Shaun Barker, remember him doing for Derby once, He once was a long throw specialist when he played right back. The problem with him playing at centre half is he is way out of position and if it comes straight out then the cover not there. In respect of long throw it needs to be a midfielder like Delap or a full back as they are more easily covered. The other thing about the long throw is you need height in the box to challengs and unfortunately that is something we lack in that respect. Look at Bryson, Ben Davies and Ward in midfield imagine them trying to get on the end of it. If you look at Stoke they tend to go for 6' plus players and they play more long ball and put pressure on for throwins. I can remember the first season Stoke was up a goalkeeper opting to kick it out for a corner rather than let Delap throw it in. If Stoke did not have the size players they have would it be has affective?

Wouldn't fully agree with you there, he would be no more out of position than going up for a corner.

Was late on in a match and he just launched it, reached about six yard box.

RotherhamRam
Wouldn't fully agree with you there, he would be no more out of position than going up for a corner. The thing with the corner it tends to break down and go out for a goal kick, a goal or hoofed out to the defenders at the top. At the game last night it caused a few flutters but it did not get hoofed out and a couple of times and I mean only a couple it got passed out. Delaps throws this year are causing problems but teams are no longer shocked by them and they are starting to play it out more. It all depends on how you utilise it I guess but the issue is still the height required for the long throws to make them effective and we do not have it. It was Rotherham where he started out at RB

Bullsh*t, Delap was a top Javelin thrower as a schoolboy (representing Ireland at competitions), I could practice throwing 10hrs a day for 10yrs and I wouldn't ever get close. To say it has no natural skill is unbelievable.

sage
Why don't teams who have a throw in alongside the penalty area get the winger to take the throw, so when it's knocked back to him, he could get a decent cross in.
Boycie
Roberts and Buxton are too slow spotting an early throw, Brayford can spot one.

sage
I know a PE Teacher who wrote his thesis on the long throw in. He could throw it as far a Delap but with a touch less pace. I reckon he could make decent money coaching it to professional teams.

CumbrianRam
Even the Delap long throw is starting to become less of a threat, look at Stoke v Newcastle. Mind you Jewell mastered it during the League Cup game when Ellington scored the stoppage time penalty.
