Green out for six weeks with knee injury

West Ham have signed Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia on an initial one-month emergency loan deal after Robert Green was ruled out for six weeks.

Greenhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer faces a spell on the sidelines with a knee cartilage problem and Hammers boss Sam Allardycehttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer has moved quickly to bring inAlmunia.http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer

Almunia has found himself out of favour under Arsene Wengerhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacerthis season and well down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Wojciech Szczesnyhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer has established himself as No.1 keeper atArsenal,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer while Wenger allowed Almunia to discuss a possible move away from the club in the summer.

A move failed to materialise during the transfer window and Almunia has yet to feature for Arsenal this season.

Almunia could go straight into the West Ham side to face Crystal Palacehttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer this weekend and Allardyce thanked Arsene Wenger for sanctioning the loan switch.

"We've been hot on the phone and secured an excellent signing in the short-term in Manuel Almunia from Arsenal," Allardyce told the club's official website.

Thank you

"It's a big 'Thank you' again to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal for allowing us to get such a high-class and experienced goalkeeper to come in and fill in for Robert for the time being.

"I think he hasn't had as many games at Arsenal as he would have liked so he wants to play first-team football at the end of the day.

"We hope that huge amount of experience he has had at Arsenal and the football he has played on a regular basis will stand us in good stead here at West Ham and more and more clean sheets will come from his presence in goal. That will obviously help us to secure more victories while Robert is out."

Its a good job Sam Avaslice doesn't know feck all about football or he'd be offering silly money for decent championship goalies like Fielding or Legzdins.....

Clueless, useless, over rated manager. The only time he did a half decent job was when he built a solid Bolton team over 6 or 7 years with £millions to spend.

I actually quite like Almunia to be honest- he's better than Green by miles! Still, like the 1st post says, it puts Frankie in line for another call up. Would love to see him on the pitch for a full England game.

You should speak to any Arsenal fan about him, a couple of my friends are season ticket holders there and completely blame him for losing the championship, on more than one occassion. So much so that the Scottish branch of the Arsenal supporters club was leading the campaign to get him elligable to play for England..!

He is, rubbish....he has always been rubbish..and he always will be.....just like big fat Sam.

Echoing the guy further up then yeah? Well,if we had Almunia in goal we would probably have beaten USA, had a lot more confidence and avoided/ beaten the Germans. Wonder if Almunia would have missed his kick at pride park and given a goal away? I doubt it. Funny old game

Sorry to bring it up Shilts but its got to be said. You cost us the World Cup in 1986 and 1990. You should have taken out that cheating little **** before he punched the ball and you should have tipped that deflected German shot over the bar. So its a bit rich you are criticising goalies.......... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

and Bobby Robson should have substituted Shilton in Extra time v Germany at Italy 1990 and put Beasant on for the penalty shoot-out.

i'd have Green in my team before Almunia every time

yes, he should have, Shilton, although awesome, was never any good at penalty's.

I would still have Shilton in goals before Almunia even now...
