That was a good read - the sentence where you put in about child cruelty just from watching Barnsley made me laugh. Having been dragged along to Oakwell every week years ago by my brothers and watching the sometimes woeful displays, I can relate to that. Mind you, we've been subject to the same at PP sometimes!

If I had to compare Oakwell to PP stadium though, Oakwell has below par facilities and you can no doubt tell it's the typical mining town club - small, grimey and plonked right in the middle of a load of equally old and battered terraced pit houses - but somehow it manages to keep it's spirit from years gone by. A bit like the BBG if you will, something would be missing if it ever got tore down and a replacement built in the middle of what you say - a load of car showrooms and not much else.

PP is certainly a lot more difficult to leave than Oakwell is but to me (and I know a lot of other Derby fans would disagree with me here because of the popularity of the BBG - that I think PP stands proud where it is and I get an excited buzz whenever I'm approaching it. My father in law, who has been a supporter of Derby since Moses was a lad, doesn't like the stadium at all, he says it can never compare to the BBG and although I never went there, I can understand that because if Oakwell went, Barnsley wouldn't be the same either.

Thanks for posting your article.

Wow, from the away end in that panoramic shot at the bottom PPS looks very impressive. Thanks for posting, a good read and as others have said it's always interesting to hear a neutral's assessment.

Were you allowed to simply pitch up and pay on the gate to get into the away end?

Thanks for all your feedback.

One does occasionally wonder, when penning my doggrel, if anyone one there ever reads the stuff.

As much as I enjoyed my trip to Pride Park, I cannot see another one coming along in the foreseeable future. If you look at the list of links on the LHS of my blog, there are a lot of English grounds missing..................and time is most definitely not on my side.

To answer one question: I did just pitch up on the evening and bought a ticket for the away end................in stark contrast to my experience at Crewe a couple of years back.

..........and with regard to Steven Pearson's looks, well maybe I can be accused of pot calling kettle here. Steven himself would no doubt point out the fact that only one of us ended up marrying a former Miss Scotland.

Anyway Folks, thanks for visiting the blog, and all the best for the rest of the season.
