smiffy
Well yes, but based on Hendrick, O'Brien and Callum Ball, it looks pretty good, doesn't it? All of them were here before Clough and his gang, Ball has been at Derby since he was 9, so I hope you are not insinuating they were found by the present regime

Asanovic: "If the people at the club, from the academy through to the manager stay, we could have 4-5 academy players in our first team in two or three years time." Marilyn: "I suppose it depends on how good they are. ;-) " Asanovic: "Well yes, but based on Hendrick, O'Brien and Callum Ball, it looks pretty good, doesn't it?" Whats being said is that we need stability and and consistency from the bottom to the top to have 5 youth players in the first team in the next few years. And that its looking good. Nobody insinuated anything. I think the most that was said was that Nigel Clough provides that consistency.
uttoxram75
Clough is going to have to be a far better manager than his Dad before smiffy gives him any credit... Derby_Dave
Well yes, but based on Hendrick, O'Brien and Callum Ball, it looks pretty good, doesn't it? Of course. I can not really comment on Ball to be honest but the others certainly look good. This is by no means a guarantee on the future though.

The fact that I do not want him as manager has not altered from the day he was appointed, but he has still had and will get the same chance as any other manager. He should have gone last season, and would have, at any other club. Maintain the improvement this season, and I have no problem, its the Rams that matter, not the manager. But , I will not give credit were it is not warranted 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

uttoxram75
The point about the youth set up is that Clough is insisting it is run seperately from whoever is currently managing the club. How many times do managers come and go and bring their own staff with them? The way we are set up now can only be good for attracting the best young kids and keeping them. It bodes well for long after the present administration departs.

Look at when Westley left and some the youngsters went to Brum with him, Jordan Mutch is obviously the 1st to break into their team but how many more have we missed out on because of a change in the academy? Sure he has, but he is just doing his job , its nothing out of the ordinary, if youngsters come through the teams set up, and show ability then he would be stupid NOT to try them. Hendrick was a no brainer really, having played for his country at every level available so far since a schoolboy he is obviously a touch above ordinary. At least Jewell did something right ( or BD, not sure which ) 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

smiffy
Really? How many youth products played for us under those two? Well the three you have quote started at Derby under one of them . PS Well maybe not Ball, think he was here before BD, but the other two yes.

PS Well maybe not Ball, think he was here before BD, but the other two yes. There are other youth players at the time, you know. Billy Davies and Paul Jewell didn't play an academy product that has become a pretty integral part of the team, that I can remember. Happy to be wrong if there are examples, this is just off the top of my head. You must be the only Derby fan that is crediting the 'work' Davies and Jewell did, and not Clough. Unbelieveable. Perky1106
Davies and Jewell collectively ****** our youth system. Before that it had produced Nyatanga, Barnes and Huddlestone so it can't have been bad. Things might have turned out differently for the likes of Paris Simmons and Matt Richards had they been given half a chance. But that's all in the past now and I'm just glad Clough is using some youth products. Having spending limits does have some benefits. An example of this is how Southampton have produced some talented youngsters in recent years while being skint.
