Srg
Billy Davies THE future of Billy Davies could finally be decided on Monday, as Nottingham Forest prepare to stage a second crunch meeting. There has been total silence from the City Ground since the Reds hierarchy last met almost two weeks ago, when the manager's position was high on the agenda. Chairman Nigel Doughty and chief executive Mark Arthur both subsequently issued a 'no comment' when asked directly if Davies would be in charge again next season. And the club have spent the last 12 days considering their options, including debating potential replacements for the Scotsman. Davies did meet with his scouting staff yesterday, to draft out a list of potential signings. But he will know that his future is still very much in the balance. And Neil Warnock is a shock contender to replace him, having steered QPR into the Premier League this season. That is thought to be one of the reasons for the delay in any decision, with Forest wanting to have a replacement lined up before making a definitive decision over Davies. Warnock, the former Notts County boss, remains in a position where his future at Loftus Road is uncertain. Rangers won the Championship title at a canter, but Warnock may yet, remarkably, find himself out of a job, with the club's ambitious owners debating whether to appoint a more high-profile figure. Chairman Gianni Paladini recently gave Warnock his public backing, insisting he would be in charge next season. But Forest are carefully monitoring the situation. And the club have also been playing a waiting game to see whether Davies himself is targeted by other clubs, having been linked with both West Ham and Cardiff in recent weeks. Davies would be due a pay-off of around £500k if he is sacked by Forest – but they may not be liable to pay it if he walks into another job first. Doughty's previous track record has normally seen him keen to line up a replacement, before swinging the axe. And Post sources indicate that could be the issue again, as Forest look to ensure they have the right man for the job. As well as Warnock, Watford boss Malky Mackay, St Johnson's Derek McInnes and former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton are also thought to be in consideration. All are young managers with burgeoning reputations who would fit into the blueprint that Forest want to put in place for next season. While not drastically slashing budgets for next season, Forest are looking to take a more frugal stance in the transfer market. This summer they will target up-and-coming players from League One and Two, rather than persisting with their fruitless efforts to pluck high-priced players from the Premier League and their Championship rivals. Day
Seems all abit daft if you ask me, why not have these secret meetings a few weeks before the end of the season and decide if they wanted Little D or not. Right now they are wasting time whilst other clubs are out chasing new players. If they do get rid you've lost another couple of weeks whilst you find a new manager, then the new man as got to assess what he has and then search for the players he wants. All seems abit Pete Tong if you ask me, then again I do find it quite entertaining.
StaffsRam
All there in the article - they want rid, but want to see who they'll have to replace him with and whether they can afford to pay him off if they have to get rid before he finds another job.
