Back in those days there was no squad numbers though, 1 to 11 on the pitch, where you could leave your front doors unlocked and the neighbours brought your washing in when it started to rain. Outside toilets and owning a TV made you posh.

1/4 pound of sherbert lemons on Shaftesbury street, look round the Ramtique, coppers on big osses and dodgy beef burgers down at the BBG - them were days

Look at those 10s. From Asanovic and Kinkladze to Craig Fagan, truly one of the worst players ever to wear the shirt. How far we fell...

On a positive note, at least we've had some good number 10s (and 27s being a rich source for a while).  Our number 12s were all rubbish.

I remember Ronnie Webster wearing No 4, when the full-backs were John Richardson and Mick Hopkinson (he lined up alongside Bobby Saxton and Phil Waller).

Harsh on Ashley Ward, Malcolm Christie and Tommy Smith.

Of course, that pre-dated squad numbers.

No 9 from September to March was often Ian Buxton. Early and late season he was playing cricket for Derbyshire. In those days, there were quite a few footballers who were cricketers in the summer.
