Unless he’s coming back at a later date, isn’t that what it says? “Retire from formula one”

Sky have put that word in there. No mention of him retiring from the man himself in his own press release, simply that he’s leaving F1.

Hope this is just a sabbatical (and not a la Mika Hakkinen), he wins the Indy 500 and comes back in 2020 to a team that can challenge for the WDC.

Best all round driver on the grid and it's a shame that his lack of timing and too much politics has reduced him to driving rubbish cars for half of his career, and now leaving the sport when the likes of Stroll and Grosjean have drives.

Everything in my head put in a concise post. Good job Joe.

I think you will find Alonso is the instigator of lots of politics, along with personal bad choices.

There is no doubting his driving, but it's what he brings with him …..

Oh yes, absolutely. I meant too much playing politics on his side.

Takes a special kind of person to **** off Renault, Ferrari, and effectively lock himself out of a Honda powered Red Bull.

All change ahead of the Belgian GP.

Carlos Jnr "Sainz" for McLaren.

Gasly to Redbull replacing Danny Ric.

Ocon possibly heading for Williams.

Stroll seemingly heading for whatever Force India call themselves.

Vandoorne possibly in a straight fight with "Chuck" Norris to be the other man in a Macca next year.

Plus it's going to rain on Saturday and maybe Sunday!

Pretty gutted for Kimi, probably won't be a better chance this season for a win.

Hamilton was on fire today and Merc got their strategy spot on. Great dice with Raikkonen.

The difference between Hamilton amd Vettel was there to see from the way Hamilton let Raikkonen back through early on, at the second chicane - playing the long game, rather than a risky defensive move.

Verstappen needs to get a grip. Too hot-headed at the moment to prove he is anything other than super fast, but risky.

Vettel doing his best impression of someone who isn't a four time WDC. His title to throw away, and looks to be doing just that.

Vettel comes across as a petulant kid that can’t get his way at times, he’s way better than he acts, just plain daft doing his best to give it to Lewis who is showing maturity, that a couple of years back you wouldn’t have seen....without losing his competitive nature.

Meantime chuffed for Norris, said after Silverstone he looked a talent, edged a reward in front of Russell by virtue of being on the McLaren young driver program.
