A Sorry Tale

Recommended Posts

We've just moved house and whilst sifting through all sorts of crap, I found some old programmes, including one from our match at Aston Villa, 11th April 1979.

Within its pages was this little piece comparing  the Rams team when Tommy Docherty took over and when this match occurred 18 months later.

I don't have it in me to pass any further comment.

It would have been a difficult task to refresh or rebuild the ageing championship winning side.

it is a fair criticism of mackay as a manager that it started to slip under his tenure.

when george got injured, davies was sold and lee retired at the same time leaving us very short up front

the money seemed to have run out. We weren't investing as we needed to

i remember everton kept buying the players who might have been realistic targets for us - dave thomas, duncan mckenzie, mike pejic

But even tommy docherty admits he did a crap job here

he was like a cross between billy davies and nigel pearson

confrontational and with an agenda to impose change asap.

it didn't help that a certain big head was building a successful team on a budget 20 miles away.
