As someone pointed out the other day, it's since we've tried to start dominating possession that things have gone tits up.

You're unlikely to dominate posession with BJ in the middle but you're also unlikely to have the opposition walking through your midfield and shooting at will.

Exactly this. I think BJ is crucial. His bite and strength in midfield is needed. Hopefully he can rediscover his goal scoring form from Norwich as well. He is also fantastic in the air which we really are lacking hence the number of set pieces we concede

And the other thing Mac majorly overlooks is that like it or not the ball goes in the sky. 

We are so useless in the air. The stats may suggest we win a decent amount of aerial battles (I don't know) But there's no chance we have any control over head tennis without Johnson. If we win a header it's usually because the opposition didn't need to win it. Sounds stupid but often it can be easier to just effect a team that's poor in the air. 

Take Olsson for example. If you drop the ball on him you don't even need to win the header. Just pressure him and he's going to head it about 5 yards away. He won't pull it down under pressure. You'll likely buy a throw in. 

Drop the ball on Johnson and he's heading it where he wants rather than where you want. You can't bully him like that.

I remember the way Derby played when we went up in 95/96, obviously we had the personnel but loved the way we had Willems playing just behind Gabbiadini and Sturbridge. Had great leaders- Stimac and Van der Laan and a great balance to that team.
