My wife (being a quarter Brazilian) has been following this all day. Apparently the team involved is Brazil's version of Leicester flying to play in the equivalent of the champions league final. Only 5 survivors on the flight. Only 3 from the team. The 24 year old goalkeeper has survived, but had to have his leg amputated. In a press conference before the match, the manager said if he died today he'd die happy.

Couldnt be more tragic :(

My son has flown that same route on numerous occasions while working and living in South America.

Some nice gestures. The team they were due to play have requested the cup is awarded to the team affected . The top clubs in Brazil have said they will loan players for free to the club for twelve months if they wish to continue

RIP

For the record, the Copa Sul-Americana (Copa Sudamericana in Spanish) is the second continental competition behind the Copa Libertadores. This is more akin to the Europa League. Just for anyone interested in that side of things.

Our thoughts should be with the families of all those that lost their lives.

******* unbelievably harsh.

Chapecoense has to pay 28500 € penalty for not playing their last game. After the crash they had couple days to apply postponement, but failed to do so.

That's outrageous, whatever happened to compassion.

The Brazilian FA need to take a long hard look at themselves. Only today our FA is being berated for being out of touch......

Whoever passed this charge over to the club are quite clearly from Newark.

This story was retracted yesterday. It didn't stop the Mirror and the Sun from running it today though.
