When you are missing 3-4 key players **** like this tends to happen, if we'd have Had Thorne, Martin, Bent and Hughes available fully fit we would have smashed them. The championship is a tough league, we don't have the right to beat anyone, we failed to make decent chances and got punished. Just because you are dominating a team doesn't mean you can stop concentrating at the back. SM was right in the interview we lost it in both boxes.

Interesting thread, it's a shame we lost but I'd take a 2-0 defeat in this manner than the 2-0 defeat in the Fulham manner.

Sadly, neither of them get us closer to promotion but the response from Saturday has to be a positive thing. It sounds like Brighton threw everything in the way and defended with everything they had. We probably needed to just keep going but sometimes it just doesn't go your way. If we take that kind of performance in to every game for the rest of the season we're in a good position because most of the time we'll capitalise on the dominance and won't concede on the break.

Always liked Brighton, good set-up, top town and a decent set of supporters based on the ones I met last year.

Brighton are right - we should have been more generous with them as they have had a horrendous season having lost a number of the players that got them into the playoffs last time. (And that could happen to us if we're not careful).

They defended like lions - their young centre half - Dunk I think - epitomised that by his flying diving headed clearance. 12 blocks to 2 or something according to Opta. As the chap next to me expressed it "That's how ya fookin defend Maclaren, sort this sausage out"

As for Mac blaming the defence, well the second came as we were playing effectively a 4-0-6 formation, Dawkins having replaced Mascarell and the deadly duo of Bryso and Hendrick scampering around in various random directions. Funnily enough Brighton were bright enough to exploit the gap.

Our form over the season matters or we wouldn't be where we are. There would be no business end of the season if we hadn't performed in... well, whatever you call the bit before now.

That's the difference between cup and league. its a marathon. All the "give 100% every week" is as rubbish as "if we can't beat Fulham we won't survive the PL"

You don't go into every game the same. You just have to match the opposition for effort. Sometimes you get it wrong (Fulham, Wigan) and sometimes you get it right and ability and style show through (Brighton and Fulham at home where the outstanding result was from a fairly average performance).

You burn yourself out if you think you can go into every game at 100%. It's not even possible to be pumped up for every game.

Individual results mean little. It's in the grand scheme where the season is decided. We learn nothing from Derby, Ipswich, Bournemouth all losing to Leeds. It means nothing.

we just need to isolate the Fulham performance. The Brighton performance was a good start but was one of those 2 in 10 games that Mac rightly says you lose even if you're the better side. Shame it came when it did but do it on Saturday and we win.

It's up to us to look at the big picture and ask if the Fulham game is going to define the season where we've won 19 of our 35 games.
