How do you make the Pound Sign?

Simple question, but I've got a Mexican laptop (assume it's the same as American) and I have no idea how to make the pound sign.

I want to use it on Microsoft Word

I know that the Euro Sign is CTRL + ALT + E which is very simple.

But I've read about the pound sign and none of the following work...

ALT + 0163

ALT + whatever...

And none of them work...

Just dine some checking - for ALT codes to work you need to use the keypad. If you have a laptop the keypad is merged to the keyboard on keys centred around the I key. You need to use these and this keypad is activated by a function key (F key) at the top of your laptop.

I'm on my laptop but I don't want to change any of the settings or anything like that.

I just simply want a simple code such as the ctrl + alt + E to get the Euro sign for the pound sign. Surely one has to exist?

Thanks for the comment Davenport, but I don't really understand it. Where is my 'Keypad'? Centred around the I key - you mean the letter I - ?
