City join race for Will Hughes

What Hughes does goes unnoticed unless you're looking for it, yesterday's game is an example of what he brings to the team. The two centre backs constantly running with the ball because they had no easy options to pass to....Hughes always finds pockets of space for the defence to find him, thus making it possible to pass through a team rather than hitting it longer.

He turned 19 the other day and he's got the 5th best passing accuracy in the league which is incredible considering some of the players in this division!

There were a number of times yesterday where our midfield had time and space to play some well weighted balls to runners in order to keep the move flowing without hold-up, but got that aspect all wrong, forcing the receiving player to take more touches, change their run to get the ball, slow down to collect it etc.

Hughes gets those right where others get them wrong. A simple pass isn't always as simple as it seems.

Never try to rationalise transfer fees.

If we compared fees paid even by our own club in the super seventies Derek Hales was considered to be worth:-

11 Alan Hintons or

3.3 Charlie Georges or

1.5 Colin Todds or

5 Archie Gemmills

Not to mention

14 Roy MacFarlands

I'm sure that Albert could put all this on a graph or pie chart taking account of inflation but I'd say that when we win the playoffs and our Chris Martins and Will Hughes become fully fledged Premiership players we will see a re-evaluation of their transfer fees but also, optimistically, a wish to keep them at Derby County rather than merely commodities for making a quick profit!

BTW....Will Hughes covers every blade of grass on the pitch.

He's always close to the ball and never takes his eyes off it.

He has an uncanny sense of anticipation which puts him one move ahead of the opposition.

He makes inch perfect passes as a matter of course.

Those of us priveleged to have seen Colin Todd in action don't need to be told who Will reminds us of.

The best is yet to come.

Value to the Rams?..........Priceless!

Colin Todd really!

One of the best defenders England has ever seen.

One of the best defenders England has ever seen.

Colin was in the top one!

(OK, maybe Bobby Moore was better looking.)

The danger was that he made mistakes so infrequently (as the clip shows) that the defence could be wrong footed. He wore that cloak of infallibilty and it fitted like a glove!

He was a great player no doubt about .

Cloughie snatched him from Sunderland and Brian didn't even tell Sam until he'd signed him.

One of Cloughies best signings.

A decent season in the Prem would make his value go through the roof

Look at Shaw, Barkley and Ward Prowse. Non of them started before this term, and now are in and around the first team. It's gone for the big 4 being linked with the big 4 to serious interest.

Teams will always be reluctant to spent big on lower league players, and if Will showed his ability on a higher level (I believe he'd suit the prem more), perhaps they'd be higher interest with higher fees quoted
