What a shock. He was fantastic. RIP.

Wow - what a waste. A great talent who burned brightly for too short a time.

Shocker. Didn't realise he had a drugs problem. Didn't really seem the hellraiser type.

How many more have to die before they start realising that the drugs really don't work?

Rip.

Never heard of him though.

Have you been living in a barrel for long now ?

Have you been living in a barrel for long now ?

no

But I do like to get out a bit.

Hoffman was great for so long you really should know his work.

Hoffman was great for so long you really should know his work.

erm, no, sorry.

I've seen his pic on the link, and do think I saw him in a film recently, but I didn't know his name.

Rip though.

Great talent , was awesome in almost everything he worked on ,, Sad loss, even sadder he leaves 3 kids behind

I don't think there's a single bad performance on his cv. He pretty much made any film he was in at least 20% better. Such a shame, I don't think he could give a bad performance if he tried and should have had many more great films in him. Similar to Heath Ledger.

Sorry an all that, RIP..

but I've never heard of him either. Recognised his face briefly but other than that, no clue.

Only watch the Oscars when Tom Hanks and Helen Mirren are nominated so didn't know he'd won one.

Drugs eh? Never, ever good.

70 bags of heroin?

Wow. Even before his death, if I'd read of someone who was found with 70 bags of heroin in their flat, I'd think that was a touch excessive.

And to think that he was off drugs for 23 years. Once you get hooked you are never really cured. Wasn't the first great actor and won't be the last. So sad.
