  1. Tell me about it! My Champ Man knowledge tells me Shaun broke through at Man City just recently....in about 2002.
  2. Blimey, looks like we could make a squad just with children of former Derby players....
  3. After realising that Tyrese Campbell is the son of Kevin Campbell, and with us being linked to Devante Cole, Josh Windass, and Charlie Savage, it occurred to me that our new transfer policy is obvious: the children of 90's and 2000's UK footballers who Paul Warne & Richie Barker remember. So here's a list of suggestions. GK - True Grant - Man City, 18, son of Lee Grant. Derby County link there already - terrible name, but we'll sign him when Man City get relegated to the National League North. RB/CB - Finn Delap - Burton, 18, son of Rory. Sign Finn up first and Liam will follow. CB - Charlie Cresswell - Leeds, 21, son of mediocre journeyman striker, Richard Cresswell. Was on loan at Millwall last season and they rated him. Recently crashed his car into police car outside Elland Road, so possibly a b*llend. CB - Caleb Taylor - WBA, 21, son of Martin Taylor (not that one, the brute from Birmingham). Did well on loan at Cheltenham last season, played nearly 50 games. Loaned to Bolton this Feb but barely played. Contract expires next summer. DM/CM - Jensen Weir - Brighton, 22, son of David Weir. Rated when on loan at Blackpool but game time was limited so cut it short. Played a lot on loan at Port Vale, who were bloody awful. He is soon-to-be free though. CM - Charlie Savage - Reading, 20, son of Robbie Savage. More technical than his Dad, plus he doesn't have that stupid bloody hair. Reading have no money, so a god shout. CM - Bobby Clark - 20, Liverpool, son of Lee Clark. We're also being linked to him! He'd be a great loan by all accounts. CM - Donovan Lescott - 20, just released by Blackpool, son of Joleon. Probably rubbish. CM - Jack & Tyler Fletcher - Man Utd, 17, twin sons of Darren Fletcher. Both handy centre mids, possibly we'd get a 2-4-1 deal on a loan. AM/RW - Stan Mills - Everton, 20, son of Danny Mills. Did well on loan at Oxford than knacked his knee. Could be a good loan when he's fit. Probably hears lots of great stories from when his Dad played 2 games for Derby. AM - Elliot Lee - Wrexham, 29, son of Rob Lee. Another Derby link, smashed it in L2 with 16 goals from midfield. We probably can't afford him though, and he's nearly 30. AM - Josh Windass - Sheff Weds, 30, son of Bradford and Hull legend, Dean Windass. Scored 6 in the Championship for a crap Wednesday side. A bit old but possibly available on a free, let's see. RW - D'Margio Wright-Phillips - Stoke, 20, son of Shaun. Soon to be a free agent, but did well on loan in Belgium at Beerschot, a name which makes me thirsty. CF - George Hirst - Ipswich, 25, son of David Hirst. Did well in the Championship this season but could easily get replaced, let's see. Seem to remember he was a big-time prat when leaving Sheff Weds. CF - Tyrese Campbell - free, 23, son of Kevin Campbell. Didn't really score for Stoke, but they are an awful, cursed club and couldn't get a tune out of Dwight Gayle either. CF - Devante Cole - free, 29, son of Andy Cole. Two good seasons at Barnsley so worth a punt on a free.
  4. Here's my prediction for where he'll end up: Wrexham. Based on nothing, but they've money to throw at the League One Golden Glove holder, plus they have 3 keepers out-of-contract.
  5. Pretty happy with that, Wildsmith aside. I'll be interested to see where he ends up. Time to get Christian Walton! Fingers crossed over Collo & Sibs. Now get Weston, Bartley, and Fapetu signed up!
  6. We'll probably have a new goalie, midfield, and strikers. Without knowing any in and outs yet, just staying up has to be the goal. 21st place with some hope for the future. It's tough to blend a new XI but if I trust Warne to do one thing, it's to create a positive team spirit. Good vibes, yeah? I hope the fans adjust their expectations and back the team, not wet their pants and turn nasty if we're 20th at Christmas... Beyond that, I'd like to see some entertaining football, recruitment of players with potential (and re-sale value), and some academy lads in the squad.
  7. These days, you get arrested and thrown in jail if you don't watch women's football...
  8. Fine. Good. Never wanted him anyway. (Can you imagine choosing to go to Rotherham so you can work with Steve Evans?)
  9. According to his Wiki, at Coventry Jodi Jones did his ACL in 2017/18 and missed the whole of 18/19. As a left-footed right winger, he'd offer some useful backup, 5 goals & 23 assists this season is pretty incredible, plus he's only 26. He'd be worth the gamble on a free but he's contracted until 2025. But it does feel traditional to have a former Notts County player in the squad...
  10. Leicester are a much bigger club than Derby, even without the Premier League win. Most football matches are boring to watch. A 'funny' chant about the size of Mendez-Laing's p*nis is weird and makes me very uncomfortable. Shaun Barker's dress-sense is amazing.
  11. I bet you can earn a good crust doing that...
  12. Looking at Small's history at Everton & Southampton, it appears he's motivated to find first-team football. He could have waited on the bench, or on loan, at both clubs and collected a hefty wage but chose not to. On the other hand, he struggled to get a start on loan at Vale in 22/23 and bailed early, now he might leave after half a season at Charlton. There's ambition and then there's being a pain in the bum. Has he got bad representation? He's obviously confident enough in his own ability to turn down contracts but I think he'd do well to get his head down and play a full season at Charlton. He could go to Spurs and be 3rd choice LB, then where exactly has he got himself since leaving Everton....
  13. Barnsley fans seem to like him overall. Judging by their comments, he can pass & dictate play against open teams, gets goals & assists (10 & 5 this season), and has loads of MoM awards, but is slow and inconsistent. He's a played shedload of 90' games this season, so he must be in good nick. When he has played in the Championship, his stats were pretty bad and Barnsley loaned him back to Oxford in L1. Is he ready for another crack? Sounds like he wanted out in January though. Maybe our coaching & fitness staff can knock him into shape. As previous posters have said, he's 25 and free, and we desperately need midfielders. https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/herbie-kane.327060/
  14. He's only 18, not 19 until October, still just a kid really. He has lots of potential but I'm not convinced sitting on the bench in the Championship and getting 10-20 minutes every now and then would be the best thing for him (although that's what I think we should have done with him this season in L1!). It would be a shame to see his momentum slow with stop-start appearances at a standard which would take anyone time to get used to. He flourished at Gateshead, their players & fans seem to love him, and he's scored some good goals. I'd like to see him go on loan to L1 or L2 and get 30-40 starts under his belt, with a view to being in the first team squad for 25/26, then we'll see if he has the mental strength as well as ability. Those kinds of loans can really make a young player. I'm very pleased Gateshead won and Brown picked up a trophy - more medals than Harry Kane, mate!
  15. D'oh, just found this on the Academy thread....both from Villa, names unknown.
  16. The U21s match report refers to Trialist A and Trialist B, and it sounds like the latter had a good game. Anyone know who they are and/or if we're likely to sign them? https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2024/05/under-21s-report-derby-county-vs-burnley
  17. I did exactly the same last night and his stats are pretty bad. He's been dining out on those fruitful seasons with Aberdeen for a while now! He's best off staying in League One.
  18. Aye, that money saved could be crucial come January. We need something in the tank in case of injuries.
  19. Warne said in his end of season interview he was off to scout games in Denmark & Holland. Anyone know who he's after?
  20. I feel bad for the fans but they'll be fine. The club have the resources to bounce back up. But their owners are clowns, so another relegation is not out of the question! Also, any decent Brum players we can get on the cheap??
  21. "I'd release Smith, Wildsmith, Waghorn, Hourihane and Gayle." I'm being pedantic but, isn't releasing someone getting rid? I'm not against signing a better 'keeper, I guess I'm just a little irritated (I'm sleep-deprived) with a few vocal posters who have decided Wildsmith (L1 Golden Glove winner) is crap and are very sure that there are better options just waiting around to join Derby! Christian Walton or Marek Rodák could well be an upgrade, who knows. Neither of them played this season, and that's typical of the free agent goalkeepers. Do they even want to sign up? Is a new goalie a good use of limited resources? They'd certainly be good signings if Wildsmith decided to leave. It's just my opinion, but I think we should keep arguably one of our best 4-5 performers over the last 2 seasons.
  22. Don't forget, he did a couple of bad kicks from hand against Cambridge, so we'd best get rid....🙄
