Say no to the EPPP
Hi Rams, I'm a Crystal Palace fan and we're trying to drum up interest in a petition against the EPPP. There's a group called 72Unite over here: [url=http://twitter.com/#!/72unite]http://twitter.com/#!/72unite who have set up a petition with the government. You can get to the petition here: [url=http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/21314]http://epetitions.di...petitions/21314 Anything that attracts 100,000 signatures has to get voiced in parliament. 20,000 to make the first page of petitions which means it’ll get media attention, 8,000 to make the second page. Its already on the first page of the Media Culture and Sport but needs 40,000 signatures to be the biggest in that department, 16,000 to make the top 5. We've had a couple of protests in the ground down south, but there just doesn't appear to be any buy-in from anyone in power. This leaves it down to the fans to do something. The only way we can be heard is to get together as 72 football league clubs and try to get this noticed. I don't know if you guys have an academy that will be affected or not, but anything that can be done to promote this amongst the fans up your way would be a bonus. For those unaware of the EPPP, see here: [url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15381652.stm]http://news.bbc.co.u...ll/15381652.stm All the best for the rest of the season. Emjlc02
Elite Player Performance Programme in a nutshell part of the programme allows for set fees for Academy stars ie Mason Bennett etc go to big fish for nothing much. FA forcing it on clubs allegedly The premier league are forcing it on he clubs not the FA as they said they would cut the money handed down to the football league if they didnt accept it

Emjlc02
Did Derby not vote in favour of this? Yes but all the clubs pretty much did as they would lose to much money that the Prem hands down.
Briggsy
I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that we voted for it because it benefitted us.
Smalley Ram
Spin? They're not likely to say we voted for something that would be a detriment to us - even though we probably had little choice
-JW-
Apparently most clubs voted for it beacuse the premier league threatened to stop giving money to the football league. Some clubs would struggle to survive without that money. Thats what i was told anyway.
Ghost of Clough
It only effects players who have a youth contract, which means if they have provisionally agreed to sign a full time contract (like Bennett), these rules won't come into play. Say no to the EPPP
Basically means that clubs who develop a player from the age of 8 to 16 can then have the player taken by a club with a category 1 youth academy for a maximum cost of £130,000. When the EPPP was proposed earlier this year the Football League estimated that between 30 -40 clubs would close their youth academies as it no longer made financial sense to continue with developing young players. There are only going to be about 6 category 1 academies and you can bet that most, if not all will be within the leading Premiership clubs. Wilko
According to Glick wevoted in favour as the pros of voting for outweighed the negatives of voting against. Either let clubs purchase youngsters on the cheap or lose valuable Premier League money. Our academy is in a good place right about now, additional investment of money, time and general care has benefitted us massively, so we won't be as affected as other clubs. I believe our academy will be a category 2 on account of our annual investment. Shouldn't have ever been on the table but the Premier League wills it I guess

Shouldn't have ever been on the table but the Premier League wills it I guess On what basis do you rate our academy so highly as compared with other clubs in the area. I know a young Derbyshire lad at the lower end of the age scale, who is a rare one who takes your breath away and he's signed for Forest. A lot of work is still needed before we become the so called academy of choice as competition for the kids everyone wants is fierce and we in my experience often tend to lose out. swansea ram
Wasn't the amount that the FL clubs would lose only about £70.000 each. And why have clubs got to accept it. Why could'nt we just tell them where to stick it.

Why could'nt we just tell them where to stick it. Because there is 2-3 million TV money the PL send to Championship Clubs, which for us is 15-20% of turnover. nfb
But it still sounds like the prem clubs will be able to tempt away young talent for peanuts compared to the 'old system', and it does sound like we have some quality comong thro....... which i must say,i thort the yanks would sell asap to turn a proffit on the investment in moor farm......This makes me wonder, why would they sell the likes of Bennett, hughes etc....for peanuts, or will they be gone before that ?
