Swansea defender Neil Taylor, is now sueing the Swans, because they will not sell him to Newcastle for £1m

This from a player that was playing non-league football with Wrexham 2 years ago, and is now a international player as well.

What is a point of a contract if a player has no intention of seeing it out.

A contract that has 3 years to run as well.

On what grounds can he sue exactly? breach of contract?

...because he has a £1m release clause in his contract,

p.s. he was playing for Deano at Wrexham just 1 year ago. Brilliant signing.

it must come down to the wording and the interpretation of the clause....

pity we can't get in there...he's worth £1m.

A contract is more for the clubs benefit, not the player.. It means that the player cannot walk away scotch fee from the contract..

Smart players should always bargain with contracts.. A good player in a small team should always ask for 2 year contracts, so that with a running contract he'll have the options for extending (includes a payrise) or other options.. An average player landing a deal with a big club (Young with Utd) should ask for 5 years.. As he's not going to get any better the deal could be his final/best ever pay (Tyson/Savage Derby for example.. 3 years!!)

Nasri has done it perfectly with Arsenal.. With 12 months left, they have to pay him big now or sell him (In which he'll earn more with his new club)..

A player that has a contract has every right to ask for a move if it's going to further his career.. He's under no obligation that he has to stay at the club (ie. Swansea) for the duration of the contract.. Otherwise why were transfers invented? Contracts these days are for the clubs benefit, they tend to use the duration of the contract as a bench mark for a transfer figure, rather than his actual ability..

Clubs always take the high ground with players.. They always complain about loyalty and disrespect if one attempts to further his career and hands in a transfer request.. Yet clubs are more than willing to release youth players, strike deals with players to lay them off before the end of their contract, release injured players etc..
