Day
Skysports.com understands Shaun Barker has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Derby. The 28-year-old only joined the Rams in July 2009, penning a three-year deal upon his arrival. He has, however, been rewarded for a number of consistent displays with improved terms. The versatile defender will now remain at Pride Park until at least the summer of 2014. That should give him ample opportunity to pass a century of appearances for the club and build on a decent goal return for a defensively-minded operator. Barker will also be hoping that his extended stay in the East Midlands sees him become a Premier League performer in the not too distant future, with Derby still well-placed among the Championship promotion pushers this season. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6578121,00.html

[sIZE=1] Thats a bit harsh, though may be tounqe in cheek, He is playing his best in years, scored 11 goals, and our best player so far this season. Would you not want a pay rise if you were in his position?

vicky-27
What's this deal with him only training one a week, or summat daft? Is it true? Yes its true - Nigel said on radio derby a few weeks ago - he only trains once a week sometimes ! sometimes he just turns up and plays with no training at all, has a pain killing injection before he goes on. Boycie
How does this affect the "Shaun Barker" currency? We'll have to flood the market with Barker type money to steady the effects?

Paul Merson? Great news foe the club hopefully Kris will follow suit soon enough! He is our best centre back by far, unfortunately he hasn't been fit this season but has battled through, other players could take note!
Leeds Ram
3 and a half years is a long contract for someone who may be on the surgeons table and hasn't played well this year, i thought we were stopping long term contracts anyway. I would rather see barker rested and recovered properly than giving him injections like no tommorow for games. We need commons as well, wouldn't be where we are now without him and without him and bueno this squad would look and play average
Alex W
Mary, he's versatile because he can also play right back. Delighted about the new deal, we all know that when Barker is fully fit then he's one of if not the best centre back in this league.
