Loved these so much, but no one makes tinned sponge puds anymore, which makes me think there must have been some godawful ingredients in there somewhere. That "cover with a cloth when opening" always seemed a bit daft, until the day one exploded on me. If I hadn't been wearing glasses, I expect it would have blinded me, but the safety specs kept the boiling treacle out. The kitchen ceiling wasn't so lucky, and we never could get the stuff off. I make my own nowadays and they are lovely, but if I saw these in the shops I'd buy a cupboard-full in a heartbeat.

treat yourself to a shop at B&M i think they still stock them

Very good of you to suggest it, but Heinz announced they'd stopped them nearly 10 years ago:

I'd not heard of B&M, but apparently there is one on The Old Kent Road. Sadly, they don'y have ten year old stock: https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/food-and-drink/food/tinned-canned-and-packaged-foods?brands=Heinz

Maybe it's not a Heinz one but I'm sure I saw something of that ilk.
