Mascot XL

Italian striker Lorenzo Insigne has had to put up with a lot in football because of his shorter stature.

The 5ft 3in (1.63m) star has admitted in the past that he almost quit the game after repeatedly being told he was too small to make it as a professional.

That hasn’t stopped the 26-year-old from becoming a quality player, and a big part of Napoli's successful season - they are challenging Juventus for the Serie A title.

And yet, he's left to overcome this kind of indignity.

Surely these mascots aren't being paired this way deliberately? If you were given to conspiracy theory, you might start to think someone was having a giggle here.

At least Lorenzo can console himself in the knowledge that he’s not the only player to have been a victim of this sort of mismatch.

France's 5ft 6in (1.68m) midfielder N’Golo Kante was matched with this mascot before a World Cup qualifier with Bulgaria last year.

I’ve been a mascot before and you just queue in a line and the players come out, totally random.

I got Nigel Reo-Coker!

Also been one before against Leicester, going back a while.

Got the choice of going out with the front of the Leicester team, or at the back of Derby's with Kinkladze. Opted of course for the latter and got to have a little kick about with him on the pitch.
