Did it chuck it down in Derby, or a plague of locusts or summat?

At 231-5 with Ben Harmison out, it had the makings of a great finish - then the dreaded 'Locusts Rain Stopped Play' tag on Cricinfo popped up - the match ends up being abandoned as a draw. Not a grasshopper - or a drop of rain - in Donington all afternoon.

Been raining in Burton, so wouldn't surprise if it has in Derby at some point.

Yep Chesney took a wicket and they did not finish the over, took tea and did not bowl another ball, as you say it looked like being close either way, pity.

On reflection it was a decent declaration by Derby's, all game neither side had managed to score much above 3 runs per over, so Kent had to think they had a chance to win to give us chance to bowl them out.

We took two quick wickets this morning, so Key and Northeast battened down the hatches till after lunch , then when they picked up the pace to go for the win they started to lose wickets as again, it would have been close if the rain had not come.

A hat-trick to finish the game.

I am so depressed about this season. Something's got to change.

The overseas players have done very little for a start, how many have there been is it four or five.

The squad is simply not good enough, how many more chances is Chesney Hughes going to have, he is no better than he was three years ago.

Some of the youngsters show promise, but they are not county cricket standard yet , some more capable and experienced players are needed , particularly batsmen.

I still find it difficult to comprehend how badly both Amla and Dilshan performed. World class batsmen no doubt, but pants for us. Expensive pants too, no doubt.

As I expressed on the cricket forum, our fielding and catching for the past two seasons has been, on the whole, dreadful. And this coincident with the appointment of a specialist and highly regarded fielding coach.

Can it get worse? I'm frankly surprised that Mr Broom wants to be part of it.

As Eddie said in an earlier post Footitt is just as much to blame as anyone , and Derbyshire rescued his career when he failed at Nott's don't forget.

I think the comment I made must have got scrambled when you processed it. I said...

"Your 'point' implying that Godleman's efforts are a waste of time could equally be pointed towards Footitt - or towards anybody in any circumstances where the team are not at the sharp end."

I wasn't blaming Footitt - he has been a model of consistency, and that he (and to a certain extent Godleman) have at least showed some semblance of professionalism even as the season petered out.
