Massa did a solid job last season and surprised a lot of people.

Here is a post I did on my other forum.

Should see some better noses this year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQSoAJBhxig
...although we could still see some odd shapes, like this idea Marussia had come up with:

Scarbs has been posting some interesting titbits on F1T.

Toro Rosso

When speaking to James Key in Abu Dhabi he didnt let slip a lot about the 015 car, but did explain the strong points of the 014 package. He suggested the revised nose with its keel pod and S duct were a strong direction for the team, so I suspect the 015 car will have similar directions, thus a "T" cross section nose and thumb tip, as we saw on the Marussia, plus an S duct.

Quite how the height at the front of the chassis between the BB and AA bulkheads differs will be interesting. the 014 car had these at the lower heights and the sloped reg for this year may not need to be applied to the front of the tub.

He also suggested the Renault PU package and cooling would be majorly revised, although this will probably show itself under the skin and less in the sidepod shape. As their roll hoop fed engine oil coolers were being copied by Marussia, its likely these will remain as well.

Sauber

Money is tight at sauber, like last year, the team will have to go early with whatever concepts showed the promise early in the R&D process that wont break the bank. Thus its likely we'll see a lot of conceptual carry over from the 014 car.

The nose will not be a short one as Lotus tested due to crash test requirements, so there'll be a narrow rounded thumb nose, different to the wide flat marussia nose.

The Ferrari PU will be kicking out more heat as they ease off the packaging compromises forced into the 014 PU and aim for more power, thus sidepods will be bigger.

Lotus failed the static load crash test before Christmas.
Possible Ferrari nose (from autobild):

...another solution:

Will be interesting to see if other teams adopt Mercedes clever gearbox casing.

Been a lot of talk about what livery McLaren will use this year. A lot of people want them to run the famous Malboro scheme that Prost and Senna won their McLaren titles with.

SH-JM-MCLAREN-37

Wont happen as the FIA will clamp down on it as it is clearly related to tobacco, much like they did with the Ferrari barcode several years ago.

The biggest fear is Honda insisting on something like their Earth Dreams livery when they were last F1:

Talk is that McLaren will be without a title sponsor for a second year as talks with Movistar havent moved on.

The issue with Ferrari was that money was very clearly changing hands between Marlboro and Ferrari for the barcodes to appear on the car. If McLaren run it as just a paint scheme, the FIA are powerless to stop it though.

Penske was still running cars in IndyCar in Marlboro colours until a couple of years ago.

Either way, McLaren can't come back with a livery as boring as last year's.

Agreed. That was dull as sausage.

Talk is Mercedes are going with chrome and Honda wants nothing to do with silver/grey/chrome so there is a move away from the Mercedes era.

They should back themselves and go proper old school and just race in orange.

Honda got an answer from the FIA this week about whether they can tweak their engine.

FIA have ruled that Honda will be allocated the average of the tokens remaining between the other manufacturers.

Charlie Whiting has said:

"If the three 2014 manufacturers have eight, seven and five unused tokens respectively at the start of the season, then the new manufacturer will be allowed to use six during the season (the average rounded down to the nearest whole number"

Now I think its good that Honda can tweak their engine after the season start, what I don't like is how it will be dependent on what the other manufacturers do.

Hockenheim will hold the German GP this year. Usually the race alternates between Hockenheim and the Nurburgring but due to the financial difficulties the 'ring has suffered recently Bernie has given the race to Hockenheim, this is despite the fact the Nurburgring is now in the hands of new owners.

Here is a drawing from Scarbs of what a new nose could look like (bear in mind this guy has a lot of inside knowledge and has actually seen some of the noses already)
