Former Newcastle United reserve Goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell has agreed to join the East Midlands club Derby County. The Hartlepool born stopper has agreed a one year deal with the Rams.

The 19 year old was released last week along with eight others players on the Newcastle United Roster.

Mitchell was behind Jack Alnwick and Freddie Woodman in the pecking order at the Magpies.

The goalkeeper made his reserve team debut in 2011 aged 16 against Manchester City in a 5-1 defeat but impressed with his performances.

At the County ground Mitchell will be working with former Magpie Eric Steele.

U-21 will have bigger changes than first team.

Look at Simmo's interview:

“Decisions are being made over the next day or two about the under-21s who will be retained and released, because that is something we need to improve on for next season, to make sure we have a really strong under-21 group who can come in and complement the first-team group when needs be. We will be a lot of bodies down then and so we need to add."
