watches....to dream on for

This is an interesting thread, I'm not going to read 48 pages so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but this is my watch, it's not a Rolex, only a couple of hundred £ but a wonderful piece of design.

Sorry but almost every watch Cisse has posted looks like an old womans Argos special, but what you have just posted beats them all hands down for the worst watch on this thread. Anywhere between quarter to and quarter past you have to twist your wrist round to see.

What happens if you want to boil an egg, that watch is as precise as Conor Sammon's finishing

You don't look at it you touch it

I don't wear it anyway, I just bought it because I like the design. I donated to the Kickstarter so got it cheap.

I have a phone for my egg timing.

I have started to think about reducing my watch collection. I have now 11 watches and they just don't get the wrist time they deserve. I think two or three for everyday use and a couple of watches for more stylish events should be plenty.

If anyone come across a vintage watch from 1950's, 60's or 70's especially from 1970 that is yellow gold and perhaps not a round one that you think looks smart and classy let me know. Especially interested of old Jaeger Le Coultre and Vacheron Constantin production.

You can PM me also if you wish.

So you want to reduce your collection whilst buying some more watches? Great start! ;)

First of all I'd like to say it's nice to see you back at the forum. You probably have been very busy chasing women. :D

I'm considering selling some of my watches. I have a couple of friends that are pretty keen on getting their hands on some of them.

Haha, why thank you!

Best of luck consolidating your watch collection!

Cisse .. I have an audemars piget skeletal automatic. 2120s calibre.. Thinnest auto movement ever made 18ct 21ct rotor .. Early 1970's I think. It was my Dads .. It's round though and to be honest it is difficult to read. It is a work of art though.

Oh my, that's incredibly rare these days. I hope you have a safe place to keep it in and four dobermanns guarding it. Post some pictures of it if you have time.

In drawer next to bed no dobermans I know it's rare and have had it serviced by a horologist but it isn't fashionable at the moment. I went to a shop in Burlington Arcade .. They were somewhat underwhelmed and suggested I might get £ 1,000 if I was patient and lucky. The market seems to be rectangular Patel Phillips or evermore blingy jumbo watches

At that level I shall keep it and wear it every so often. I have tried to post photos via iPad but it doesn't seem to want to play.

Thanks Cisse I will :-) .. the condition is good ..I suppose not unworn and mint as perhaps a specialist collector might like but it was my fathers dress watch and has been lightly and infrequently used. the strap is a little worn as you might expect but the original buckle and box are all there.

My feeling is that many of these things are fashion driven and while the beautiful elegant slim watches of the 60's and early 70's have a unique charm I have a sense that for many they don't make a statement in quite the same way that say a vintage rectangular PF would. Add in that it is skeletal and difficult to read and it becomes a piece of sophisticated jewellery that doesn't appeal to a wide market. I think it is a collectors piece for a watch enthusiast who wants one for technical and historic interest. Wealthy people like this are not as numerous as Russians and Arabs who are providing a lot of the money for the high end watch business.

I have no doubt that the guys in Burlington Arcade were playing it cool but on the other hand they didn't stop me walking out. When I first got it I found reference to one sold at auction in America about 10 years ago but even that was only 4/5,000 dollars. My gut feeling is that it will be another 20 years before it comes good and the fashion cycle moves again.

An AP is always an AP. Vintage watches are still in demand and the size wise I believe huge watches are already past their peak. Financial times are hard everywhere and since I don't know the actual model it's hard to say but I would expect it be about £3000-£4000 with the right buyer.

That was my gut feeling too.

I am no collector but I do like watches and always have done. I have a modern Seamaster planet Ocean that I wear every day and another of Dads and old 18ct bump automatic omega circa 1950 .. It says Seamaster but my watch mending man says it isn't waterproof
