They're making more and more of these slap up movies where they throw multiple characters together, they're not particularly good in my opinion but they make money off of them so kudos I guess. That in itself is a stupid idea To be fair Batman and Superman were put together in Frank Miller's graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns. I believe the film will be partially based on that.
