The cynic in me thinks everything Beckham does these days is geared towards getting this knighthood either him or his Mrs craves (I can't help thinking her being Lady Victoria would be right up her street) and by that I mean last week the Daily Mail ran a story about David rushing to help an elderly lady who collapsed outside Harrodds. That might well be true but it's the third Good Samaritan act I've read he's been involved in "just passing by" I'm not bothered either way if he gets his knighthood, he deserves it more than some sycophant civil servant or political party donor (for me) but maybe less than some others. I mean I'd rather Charlie Watts got one before Beckham, anyone who can be in a band with Keith Richards for 50 years and still be sane deserves one. Its a bit sick but they do it for their own career motives. charities have become awash with money. Some seem to have lost sight of their real purpose and highly paid executives focus instead on the fund raising potential of celebrity endorsements. As for the hours system. Sir Jimmy Saville? Guest Posted February 5, 2017 Share Posted February 5, 2017 As an ordinary bloke from Chaddesden who received an honour for 25 years of British aid work in developing countries mainly in Africa, helping the poorest people to get proper water, medical assistance, justice, education etc and who was arrested and thrown into prison by the secret police in Sierra Leone and caught malaria in Malawi and lived in pretty poor conditions for long periods, this latest Beckham revelation on top of other celebrities being honoured, really rankles. Tony Le Mesmer Posted February 5, 2017 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Beckham was a great footballer IMO and always seems to be a steady and dedicated ambassador for the country and football. That really is as far as I can take my praise for him. The rest of me sees him as a vain, vacuous, image obsessed individual and I never have and never will be able to relate on the same level to someone like that so i'm out. In addition his wife, without wanting to get personally vindictive, is of exactly the same character only the difference between him and her is that she has never had any identifiable talent. They are a celebrity family and i'm sure their kids will grow up and excel in the exact same detached celebrity world which nowadays only seems to exist for people with no talents and it's success perpetuated by celebrity followers with limited cerebral activity. Anyone who has ever purchased a Beckham 'fragrance' take a bow. Really good footballer, seems a decent bloke but there are thousands upon thousands of people throughout this country who deserve knighthoods ahead of the likes of him. I find this unacceptable. It's ok being photographed out with the kids for the day at a theme park like some happy family but who does the dirty work and who gives the emotional support? To be fair though I have seen pics in sepia of Becks closely holding his baby whilst he is proudly showing off his branded embossed briefs range purely by coincidence of course that his distressed baby suddenly needs some attention and Becks happens at the same time to be wearing these very same briefs. It's not as if they are going to be on the breadline. It's more about self. I want kids but I don't want to look after them. is exactly what they are saying yet the media pour scorn on families on council estates trying to do their best and get by on next to nothing. At least some (not all) are there for their kids and actually WANT to be there for their kids. Presumably that's why you have kids? To be with them and enjoy the time with them. Ok so not all of parenting is fun but it's a journey. Many of these celebrities only begin this journey when their kids are grown up. By then it's too late. There was the Rebecca Loos 'affair' debacle that only the media came out of looking bad, they wanted the beckhams to bite and they didnt, they just went about their business, who knows if it was true or not but it did not tarnish his reputation. Then dont forget the constant attempts to suggest he was looking at other women, how many times were pictures published showing him looking at cheerleaders etc? Ok come on...how many of us wouldnt have had a crafty glance??? Now this....maybe he has said something, maybe he does have a desire to be knighted i dont know, he certainly doesnt come across as fake when he is doing his charity work so he is a very good actor if hes only doing it for recognition. I do think todays celebrities receive awards far too easily, comeon victoria beckham getting an obe for services to fashion??? whats that all about? Andy Murray being knighted?? ok he's is a fantastic tennis player but seriously knighted at this point in his life is crazy.. What I find more appauling is that the media is happy to condone his emails being hacked by publishing their content. Surely hacking someones private emails is illegal?
