Why do we seem to take forever to get players in?! Sheff Utd signed Vokes & Riise today and nothing was in the media that they were available and suddenly they have signed!! Ours are always rumoured to be coming, then there's a problem and they then eventually sign.... sometimes!!!!

Would have happy with either or both of them by the way?!!

It's just how football is, sometimes transfer fees and how much of the loanees wages will be paid etc etc can prove to be a sticking point, also with Sheff Utd buying a striker it means that they know Ward is one his way out and Riise being a winger (where they played Ward) seems like a replacement for him. We will see.

Just to put a little perspective on the transfer saga.............If they can't get anyone what hope have we got?!!

West Brom tried to sign 29 different strikers during the January transfer window - but ended up bringing just one of them to The Hawthorns.

The Baggies' technical director Dan Ashworth revealed that the relegation-threatened side made frantic efforts to bring in more firepower throughout the month, but only Arsenal youngster Carlos Vela ended up making the move - and then only on a loan deal for the rest of the season.

But at least they did get someone and they had more than one option. Better that than Derby's attempt to get Connor Salmon in. Where was plan B, Plan C etc?

Amazing, OP saying why are deals done through the media then inglorious saying that we never had a plan b etc, is that because it wasn't in the media? Damned if they do damned if they don't.

Is it possible that some get out to the media and some don't or would it be just "yank spin" either way with some people?

Read the Jamie Ward thread - there is alink to an article saying we made a deadline day approach for him

There was also reference to a Aberdeen striker Chris maguire in a story about Sammon.

we had been promised Waghorn from Leciester

So from only having one option in Sammon we have been linked to 4 striekrs during the January window. plan B, C and D

Not to mention a failed attempt for Craig Beattie from Swansea.

Don't really understand why people think using the media is a bad thing. It's called tapping up.. Everyteam does it, it forces the decision on the chairman and in many cases ie. Andy Carroll, Torres, D.Bent even our own B.Davies, they (the players) hear about it, hand in a transfer request, and the rest is history.
